Hi All,

Tickets for the Lee HunterParty will be on sale with Daren Harper from tonight, and you will see him at most of the salsa nights in Cardiff.

We will also have a photographer there on the night who will do instant photographs for you.

There is the option of Fancy Dress Themed: Guys & Dolls, so I hope we won’t be the only ones dressed this way.

See you all soon on the dancefloor.

Hi Guys,

Only two weeks to Lee Hunter coming down for the christmas party. If you want to be there please buy/book your tickets now as they are selling well. Daren Harper is out at most salsa nights in Cardiff and has tickets, or you can see Leslie Brown on a Monday night and book with her. You can also pay by paypal to welshsinger3@aol.com if you’d prefer. Tickets will then be held on the door in your name.

Really looking forward to a fab night of fun and dancing

This is probably not important, but I thought it was worth mentioning that I will be playing some Salsa at this event

No worries Tammi,

But consider this as I often find that the DJ is not mentioned in various promotions around the country for Salsa Events... The Dance Instructor always is!!! :-(

People who know me will know, that I have never claimed to be the best around and probably suffer (in business terms) from not pushing myself sufficiently in promotional terms... Ask Stellan!! He’s always bol*!-king me about that, to which I usually retort... I’m just not that way inclined, let’s just say I’m a little old fashioned...

But here’s the important thing to consider... At a Salsa Event if the Instructor turns out to be less than you’d expected for whatever reason - not that many are, they’re usually great - but if they should lack lustre on the night, then people can rely on the bank of moves etc they’ve already built into their repertoire, I’m sure you will agree! However if the DJ plays a chunk of crud(!), then no matter how many lessons you’ve had, with however many Instructors of great teaching ability, and however much style, technique and indeed moves you may be capable of exercising, the fact is you won’t enjoy dancing to a poor set of tunes.

Not giving you a hard time lovely girl, just using the oversight in order to make (what I consider to be) a valuable contribution to the forum about the job that a DJ does in Salsa… Unfortunately the written word doesn’t allow for intonation and the original post of mine was meant to be, at least a little light hearted … still it does raise an important point - at least for me!!

And I do agree with you … I’m sure it’s going to be a great night!!

(O) Big Hug … xOx Two Cheeky kisses

Slightly disgruntalled

Sorry Tammi,
but this is all very true and is the reason why on this occasion I won’t be coming which is a shame cos I really like the stuff that Lee does Still you can’t please all the people all of the time. Hope it’s a good night for you

Well Slightly Disgruntled...

Music of course (and whether it is good or not) is all very subjective!! And you are of course entitled to your opinion on that. However, just in case anyone should be put off from coming to Tammi and Gwen’s Xmas Party by reading your post I think it only fair to counter it…

Personally I love every kind of music from Renaissance Choral Music through to Drum & Bass; and everything in between!! Equally where Salsa is concerned I love everything from 50s Son through to present Mambo; and everything in between… But when I’m working for someone I always ask what do their regulars like to hear and within reason I try to stick to that, whilst at the same time watching what their regulars respond to. After that I try giving them what seems to work … In other words I play to the majority of people in any crowd... and not for my own benefit!! I think it’s a good formula for having a successful event and the evidence for that is that I’ve been playing to packed dance floors for 15 years! Further evidence is that I’ve always had a large contingent of Latinos at my own events! Further evidence is that at my own events I usually manage numbers in the hundreds! Further evidence is that Most of the Big named DJs Lubi, Mauricio, Henry Vina etc all rate me highly and share musical knowledge with me as I do with them! Personally I don’t DJ many events outside of my own, as generally I’m not that interested except for friends such as Tammi & Gwen so it’ll be a pleasure for me to do this gig…

I am as sure as I can be, that this Xmas Salsa Party will be a fantastic event after all the hard work
Tammi & Gwen have put into it. I’m also sure that for the every person that may not like what’s on offer i.e.
Tammi & Gwen - Hosts, Lee Hunter - Classes & eldj - Party … There will be dozens of people there, that will!!

Slightly disgruntalled

As I said you can’t please all the people all the time and agree that musical taste is subjective, post certainly wasn’t meant as discouragement for others to attend quite the contrary I have been promoting the event cos I know how much effort Tammi puts in.

I play Salsa music from 1970s 1980s 1990s and the Naughties!
I play all genres of Salsa music, pretty much without a preference!
I play Salsa music from New York, Miami, LA, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia,
And even Europe, Africa and Japan!
I play Salsa music in Spanish, English and other Languages!
I play all types of Salsa with a balance toward the crowd at any given event or an even balance if that can’t be determined!
I play what is required by the promoter or advertised by the promoter or myself if its my event!
I play requests when asked for!

And finally

I play tracks that have been chart toppers in every type of Salsa in their respective countries/ communities; so therefore not necessarily my choices, but those of the broadest consensus of opinion of Salsa Lovers World Wide!

You’ll probably not find a more balanced selection of Salsa...

Looking at your quote “You can’t please all the people” I would add “all of the time” which I fully accept and understand... but it’s equally true that you can please most of the people most of the time, which is exactly what I try (at least) to do!!

I understand if someone doesn’t like a particular track or two, but unless you want everything to your own particular musical taste throughout the night, with no thought to others, then it’s odd that you don’t seem to appreciate that most Salsa crowds are a mixed bunch requiring a mix of music at least some of which should keep any individual happy.

It therefore begs the question... Why should such a balanced selection of Salsa offend you to the point that you need to make a post stating the fact on this website!!

Of course this is a forum and it is proper to debate anything relevant to Salsa. I have already stated that you’re entitled to your opinion but you haven’t said who you are or exactly why you don’t feel you would like the selection played at Tammi’s Xmas Party…

So Slightly Disgruntled... It would be interesting to hear the explanation!!
