We are pleased to announce that our Tuesday Cuban Salsa Classes are moving from Koko Gorilaz to Barocco bar in Cardiff Town Centre (12 Wharton St.). Our first night in Barocco will be this coming Tuesday, 23rd September.

We feel very lucky to be able to hold our classes at Barocco. For those who don’t know it - it is a beautiful venue - a trendy City-Centre bar with Baroque-style decor and an Italian-influenced food & drinks menu. The classes will be upstairs where there is a wooden dance floor. The atmosphere is perfect for salsa!

Freestyle Dancing 10.15-11pm
£5 one class/£6.50 two classes/£7 three classes/£4 Rueda only

Such a shame - Gorilaz was a lovely venue - why do we have to move - any explanation?? - I have been away - so sorry!

Did wonder that myself - Gorilaz is much more spacious than Barocco. Good luck with it anyway though.

Thanks for your thoughts... Unfortunately it was a decision made by the management of Koko Gorilaz... Barocco is a lovely venue though with a great atmosphere for salsa and in the future we may be able to use both floors there which would give us more space than there was in Koko’s. Sabina

The Salsa @ Barocco has been going very well, so tomorrow (Tuesday 11th November) we are trialing using both floors - and so we have added an extra class:

BEGINNERS 7pm - Basic Steps, Sacala, Enchufla etc. (Top Floor)

IMPROVERS 8.15pm - Enchufla Doble, Sombrero, Setenta etc. (Bottom Floor)

INTERMEDIATE 8.15pm - More Complicated Moves (Top Floor)

RUEDA 9.30pm (Top Floor)

Excellent! Looking forward to it.

HI I am a complete beginner to Salsa and am interesting in taking it up. However I don’t have any idea where to start. I would like to come along to one of your beginner classes. What is the average age of beginners? What should I wear, clothing and shoe wear?

Any Advice?

Hi Clare,

People who start salsa are of various ages and from all walks of life.

Why not give O’Neill’s a go tonight?

The two biggest nights in Cardiff on weekdays are O’Neill’s on Mondays and Jumpin Jaks on Thursdays both of which have wide age range of people at all levels. If on the other hand you go to somewhere like Bar Cuba on Tuesday this tends to appeal to the student population.

You could also try one of the smaller classes, such as Barocco which is a really nice venue with one of the best floors around. I popped in there last week for a bit of social dancing after the classes and found that there was a good balance of numbers and age range. So wherever you go you don’t need to be worried about the age factor.

Much of the general advice you need to know can be found here.

Hi Clare! Thanks for your message. People of all ages come to our salsa classes. And as for what to wear - anything comfortable. Most people come smart casual. Shoes: some ladies like to wear high heels but flat shoes are fine too. Just come in what you’re comfortable in to your first lesson and go from there...

Our Beginners classes are 7pm in Barocco on Tuesdays and 7.15pm in La Tasca on Wednesdays. You’d be most welcome - classes are really friendly and relaxed and new people come along every week so you won’t be alone. You don’t need to come with a partner. Hope to see you there!

Hi, I was wondering if the beginners classes are still on on Tuesdays in Barocco at 7, as me and my friend would like to come this week.
Many thanks!
