Some Prices for SalsaMania’s Wednesday Club & Class Salsa Party have gone up - some have gone down, especially for those who travel...

Where they have gone up it is to cover the extra cost of finding an appropriate venue where our rent has significantly increased ( I’m afraid there are not many venues left to Salsa because of the tap water issue) and also because we will be bringing Guest instructors from London etc... on a more regular basis
These teachers would cost you between £10 and £20 at a weekend workshop... we are charging a maximum of £8 for two classes & the club. I hope you agree this represents very good VFM especially as the classes are followed by the South West’s busiest and longest running Salsa night club

**** Important foot note ****

Please be aware that every glass of tap water ordered is a death blow to Salsa - making it ever less likely to find affordable quality venues!... If you want to keep quality venues to dance in at reasonable prices you have to consider spending £5 - £10 at the bar each time you visit a Salsa club making a night out at Salsa cost between £8 and £18 depending on your circumstances and what class/club selection you choose.

I know that some or most of you are aware of this important point but some may be new to Salsa and are not aware of the damage that simply asking for tap water can do to this thing we all love...

In Bristol it is becoming extremely difficult to find appropriate venues willing to take on a Salsa night - I imagine it is the same in Cardiff and therefore it is really important that I restate this case for the sake of everyone who would wish Salsa to thrive!

Hi Guys,

Sorry to be changing the above information more than onece during the month of May, but we have some important news about changes that are going to take place shortly at SalsaMania...

These changes are unavoidable but we hope nevertheless that you will continue to enjoy a quality Salsa experience irrespective of the changes... For more detailed information regarding our nights please navigate to the website @ www.SalsaMania.biz

The current advertised line up of teachers will go ahead as planned

Wednesday 14th May... Henry Viña
Wednesday 21st May... Moe Flex & Helena
Wednesday 28th May... Wesley Prince
Wednesday 4th June... Tony Lara & Daniela

And the Club section will continue as before with DJ el D ‘til 2am
However, there’ll be a big change to the way we run our Classes

In this highly saturated market we have until now been the only promoters bringing respected and nationally recognised instructors to Bristol for Intermediate / Advanced Classes on a regular basis!
We managed to do this for a considerable time at the same prices charged by our competitors but recently had to raise the price by one pound to try to meet the high cost of continuing to do so... Unfortunately this has only served to reduce the size of the classes making the possibility of continuing with the present format unsustainable...

Therefore like every other promoter we intend to run classes using our own local, though nationally recognised and highly respected, teacher Nigel Maye... From now on we are going to run three levels: Beginners, Improvers and Intermediate. The classes will run consecutively starting with a

Beginner class at 8.30pm sharp and a
10 - 15min break at 9pm... then an
Improvers class 9.15pm with a
10 - 15min break at 9.45pm... and finally an
Intermediate class at 10pm finishing at 10.30pm!

Credit Crunch... Price Crunch

From this week Wednesday 14th May we are going to reduce the price of entry to reflect this change. This will be the standard entry price before 10.15pm and will cover the cost of doing one, two or all three classes and will also include club entry as before.

Classes: £6 / £5 Members / £4 NUS and Members who travel
Club entry: £4 / £3 NUS and all Members (before Midnight)
And now only £2 for all after Midnight

The 'I Love Bachata’ event featuring Tony Lara and Daniela will be the final appearance of Internationally recognised instructors brought on a weekly basis...

However, the new class format and pricing regime will start from this Wednesday 14th May and depending on how things work out over the course of the next few months we may again bring down your favourite Instructors for special events on a - one special guest instructor / performer per month basis. Whether this happens will be very much dependant upon how much support we attract after the changes have taken place...

We hope you will understand that these changes were inevitable and by implementing them we can continue to bring you the South West’s longest running Latin Night Club...

Copious quantities of Love & Bubbles from Steve, Nigel & Amparo

30 minute classes? Be serious - it’s simply not worth coming out for that.

I’m guessing there will be an even bigger drop in numbers coming to the classes than the £1 rise caused ( or £2 if you include the now compulsory cloakroom charge)

Even if there is a drop in class sizes to that of many other Salsa clubs, at least we’ll be able to stay in business and keep on providing the Club section which is much more what we’re about!

The truth is, that even with the fact that we were the only Salsa promoters bringing down nationally recognised teachers to the South West on a weekly basis, the numbers and support we attracted for advanced classes never covered the cost of doing so! Therefore something had to give, yet I can tell you that those who came last week really took to the format, which is in effect an hour and a half long class with two breaks in between which you now only pay one price for!

Many classes are only 40mins anyway and the half hour time posting which we intend to stick to regarding start times has a 15min break between classes which can be used up, if and when classes necessarily go over!

You can jump in when it’s apropriate and you can jump out when it’s not; but there is continuity with what is being taught! We may lose some advanced dancers for the classes but I believe they’ll still come to club section, as where else can you dance till 2am round these ere parts.

Advanced dancers have options what with all the weekend activities going on and no longer can be relied on to fill midweek classes... The old style format was unsustainable it’s a fact of life so I’ve done something about it. If it doesn’t work out I also have options.

As for the cloakroom charge it is one pound per person and not per item and is extremely reasonablly priced when compared to other nightclubs and besides which, the club policy is to put coats and large bags in the cloakroom (it is not our decision) as they say coats lying around are a hazard to health in the club. People are allowed to take small bags into the club naturally... This is normal practice in most nightclubs and much cheaper anyhow as I’ve stated.

Just chiming in to say I always use a cloakroom if one is available. Bags and coats lying around everywhere do look terrible. And twice I have had a coat or coat and shoebag stolen while dancing salsa in Cardiff.

I’ll bow to your greater experience & track record but my feeling of last weeks 30 min beginners class was like ‘what! Was that it?’

Just as I was getting my head around it it finished. Got bored waitng for next classes to finish as they were over my level and left before the club part.

Maybe I’ll come back when I can dance confidently as the atmosphere was great but sadly it’ll mean going to other classes with longer teaching for begineers

Improvers was designed to follow on from the Beginners class and always has been... Beginners always stay on and do at least the following improvers class it is the only way to progress. Had you stayed you’d have noticed that there would have been absolute beginners in the second class who had stayed on as a natural progression! You’d have also doubled your experience and had an hours worth of classes for the same money as you paid for one! There will also be a point in the progress of any dancer where they could take advantage of three classes, that’s an hour and a half + any overspill for the same price! We now charge a maximum of £6 which is less than many of our competitors and in any event includes a Latin Night Club till 2am... It’s horses for courses I guess and it might not work for everyone but with Nigel May teaching it’s never going to be boring, that is one thing I am sure about.

Wednesday @ Platform 1 in Bristol we had over 200 people through the door which made it a great night with Bachata Stars Tony & Daniela!

To keep this momentum going, we have decided to offer everyone a ‘Salsa Summer Saver’ for those who may enter from 11pm to Midnight we are now charging just £2 club entry for a limited period... So come on down look around and spend two pound ha ha

Also you can now enter at 10pm for the standard club price!!!

Last and not least we have guest instructor Mauricio Reyes coming down on the 18th June to take the lessons... checkout the new class structure and timetable!
