Six hours of rueda - now that sounds like fun!

Count me in - February will be one year since I started dancing so it’ll be like celebrating my first anniversary with a six hour marathon!!! (5 Feb last year was my first class)

Well Jim, that’s a true addict for you, remembering your first ever lesson :)

As far as I know this will be the first salsathon in Wales, so we have to make it a big one! According to Andy, the brazil Salsathon lasts 24 hours, but I think its best to ease you all in and maybe go for 24 hrs in 2009 :)

6 hours of dancing will be pretty tough, not only from a fitness point of view but also mentally. So to throughout the afternoon we’ll add some line-ups, la rueda etc to keep it interesting.

Everyone will have to pay an entry fee which they collect via sponsorship form from friends, family, whoever you want really. I need to do my sums to work out how much per couple, based on raising £2k for the charity.

Great to see you guys are supporting this already. Well done!

Sounds great! You don’t know when in February? My salsa diary is starting to fill for feb already! And I may be able to get some business sponsorship for you.

That would be great!

It will be either the 10th or the 24th, as there is a Pontins weekender on the 14th. I havnt seen anything else advertised for those dates yet, not locally anyway.

If anyone does know of an event which will clash please let me know. It will be on a Sunday some time between 12pm and 8pm.

This sounds fun but I’m curious about how it works. (Rueda aside) when dancing in the marathon would you stay with one partner throughout or change periodically (as with normal social dancing but without a break). And presumably there will have to be exactly equal numbers or (if normal numbers are anything to go by) the girls will get more rests than the guys. And are there any rules on what you can do (ie you can’t just do Cross Body Leads for the last two hours when exhaustion sets in)?

It will be very laid back and easy going - as long as its safe and you keep going for the 6 hours, you can dance as you want!

Throughout the event, especially as people tire, we’ll try and keep a buzzing atmosphere with lots of encouragement. About once an hour, I’ll intorduce line-ups, La Rueda etc, to give the guys a break from having to think about move after move after move... and to have a bit of variety on the whole. If you want to join in these you can, or you can keep dancing as a couple. If people want to change partners, they can. Imagine the usual social dancing - but without the breaks in between. There will be lots of volunteers on the day checking on you on the dance floor to make sure youre ok, offereing water and juice to keep you hydrated, find you other partners, answer questions etc. There’ll also be first aiders on hand, but I’m SURE we won’t need these :)

Numbers wise - you can enter as a partner or we’ll match you up with someone. I’m sure there’ll be mixture of both. You can only hope for equal numbers with any salsa event, but if I find there a lot more girls than boys (or vise versa!) I’ll work on first come first serve and then come up with some options for those un-partnered. I’m sure it won’t come to that as I’m a right nag and I’ll be bugging people non-stop to join in :)
