Message 1 · 21 Jun 2006 17:40 GMT After having had a few dances after the classes at Cuba last night, the most annoying thing was how smoky the place became all of a sudden, mainly from a lot of outsiders coming in after the classes and lighting up. It seemed everywhere I looked amongst the people who weren’t dancing everyone had a fag in their hand. In a venue like Cuba not much can be done about this, as the dance floor and area in front of the bar merge into one. There are however a few people, they know who they are, who smoke at the edge of the dance floor in Risa, and not at the other end away from the dancers. |

Message 2 · 22 Jun 2006 10:27 GMT Cigarette smoke is the worst thing about a night out dancing. The public-smoking ban should arrive next summer; I can’t wait! |

Message 5 · 8 Aug 2006 16:41 GMT Cuba last week was particularly smoky and with the fans switched on it seemed to make things worse. It just seemed to stir the smoke around even more! Worst of all is when you see people actually dancing with a fag in their hand which I’ve seen occasionally. This really irritates me. |

Message 6 · 8 Aug 2006 17:46 GMT Yes. It is annoying people smoking on the dance floor but Cuba is a typical young persons clubbier bar where people, particularly students, drink and smoke. It’s not a ‘salsa dance venue’, unfortunately, so it’s to be expected. |

Message 8 · 2 Mar 2007 14:52 GMT Yes, but how much preparation is really needed? Not much. I’m sure it will go off perfectly smoothly. (Like extended drinking hours. Remember the fuss there was about that before it started!?) A step forward for civilisation. |

Message 9 · 2 Mar 2007 15:09 GMT A woman I dance who smokes told me she “couldn’t wait” for the smoking ban. Smelling smoke makes her want to light up herself: if it’s banned it’ll make it a lot easier for her to give up. |

Message 10 · 2 Mar 2007 20:13 GMT Maybe more people will dance too, when those smokers who used to hang around feel like they need to hold something in their hands perhaps they will start Salsa lessons as a way of overcoming the addiction and gaining a new one lol. In fact, all you teachers should make the most of this opportunity to PROMOTE salsa as a positive way to enjoy a night out without smoke, get over the addiction, and distract from the habit itself. Its going to be awesome to go out dancing and not come back stinking of someone elses smoke! |
