Dai

Hi everyone,

I’ve only been to Salsa classes a total of seven times going to The Wharf and Cuba, but the more I go the more look forward to the next time.

As I’ve only been to the improvers twice, I’m still not quite yet confident enough to practice after the classes.

But Wow! Just watching after the classes last night, Cuba really rocked! Some couples were really tearing up the dance floor. If I could become just half as good as they are, I’d feel on top of the world!

Salsa is like eating a tub of Pringles. Once you started shaking your bon bons, you cannot stop. Am sure you will be awsome in no time! Keep it up mate!

Dai

Yes, I like the analogy with a tub of Pringles.

It’s good to encourage people, but it’s completely unrealistic to suggest that anyone (apart from the exceptionally talented) will be ‘awesome in no time’. All the ‘awesome’ male dancers I’ve seen have been doing it for years. Don’t let that discourage you: you’ll have a lot of fun along the way and you’ll get a real feeling of achievement at those moments when your dancing steps up a gear and it all comes together.

Certainly is addictive though, and unlike chocolate or alcohol you can never really have too much salsa.

Hey guys. Well I’m a complete newbie to all this and went with a friend On Tues nite to Bar Cuba - I can safely say I spent a good few hrs with a smile on my face. Its def not easy - but what fun. Can’t wait til next week and wish I knew more people around as my friend doesn’t live down here & I will be a bit nervous turning up without a partner especially as I’m still finding my feet. I am practicing my basics every nite tho!

Dai

Hi Jo PJ, glad to see you’re enjoying it, you’ll find as you get better each time you’ll look forward to it even more the next time.

Turning up without a partner doesn’t really matter, as Andy often instructs us to change partners regularly, particularly in the improvers class which you should feel confident enough to try after about 6 sessions of beginners. This will enable you to meet lots of new people.

Keep it up!

Hi Dai - thanks for that. I’m going again tomorrow nite and I’ll see if I can spot all those who don’t turn up without a partner - see if I can find somone for the following week, as I’m not really confident enough yet to turn up solo - but who knows. Have you been to the Wharf on a Sunday? Is it any good?

Hey JoPJ

Its great that you are enjoying yourself and having sucha good time!

To be honest, most people who go on a tues night go solo, I tend to but everyone is very friendly so you should have no problems!

As Dai said, Andy rotates partners in the lessons so you always meet mew people. It can be very intimidating I know going on your own and Cuba is always a busy night. I remember when I first started I was terrifed! But just smile and enjoy yourself!

You’ll soon meet loads of people and won’t bat an eye lid at going on your own or even dancing on your own as I often do when stood out... can’t help myself!

Keep it up and enjoy it!

Oh and the wharf is a geat night too, fantastic for beginners but be warned it gets very busy! Again, a lot of people who dance there come on their own too. The wharf is a much smaller venue but has a great atmosphere and the people are just as friendly!

When I started the wharf was my fave place to go.

Hi again Jo PJ. Yes, is Lisa is right if you do find Cuba a bit intimidating at first, also give The Wharf ago on Sundays.

I found that the first two or three times I went to learn Salsa were the most difficult. I just kept telling myself ‘be bold’, and by the fourth and fifth times I began to enjoy it more.

By the six or seventh time I decided to give the improvers ago. It was after this I can say that I became hooked.

When your confindent enough to give the improvers ago in in few weeks time maybe. Still start with the beginners as it acts a good warm up for the improvers.
