Message 11 · 30 Jan 2007 20:56 GMT Hi Julie, I can not believe what Hugh has said! There are judgmental people out there, but not many and in salsa even less than mainstream clubs. I have fair bit of experience dancing with many, many women of all shapes and sizes. A lady being larger rather than smaller has never stopped me from asking them to dance. I welcome anyone that has the courage to step up on to the salsa dance floor in the first place and dance. The rest as Lucy and Tammy comment, will come with time and dedication. I hope to see you and many any other ladies in the same position very soon.;-) |

Message 12 · 1 Feb 2007 19:19 GMT Hi Julie, I started out at 15.3 stone and caught the salsa bug. Yes, there are guys who won’t dance with you. Guess what? They’re not the ones worth dancing with anyway IMHO. I discouraged myself too many times thinking there was something wrong with me. I’m down to 12.5 stone just because at the time I started salsa I had adopted a healthier attitude not because I felt the pressure to do so. I’ve always been a big girl. :-D I will say at a bigger size your balance will be different that someone who is shorter but persevere and invest in a good pair of shoes. I’m 5’ 11" or so in heels. Just my 2 US cents. :-D |

Message 15 · 1 Apr 2007 16:29 GMT Hi, I am moving to Treorchy in the next couple of weeks, It’s a big move and I won’t know many people! Does anyone know when and where the nearest classes are? Do you need to sign up for a whole course or can you just pop to session when you can make it? Thanks Clare. X |

Message 16 · 11 Apr 2007 12:01 GMT Hi Clare, The nearest classes to you are in Abercynon on Mondays, run by Lisa, details can be found here. http://nat.heminc.co.uk/salsa/. And, yes you can just drop in anytime. It’s also worth occasionally popping down to Cardiff if you can make it. Details of the classes in Cardiff can be found on the front page of this website. |

Message 19 · 11 Jul 2007 18:52 GMT Hi JoJo, I’m pretty sure Jeff ov Ponty used to run a beginners class in Porth but I’m unsure as to whether he still does sorry. Though Tammi definately runs classes in Ponty & Lisa in Abercynnon. All lovely people who know their stuff. Does anybody know if Julie did decide to take up Salsa? I really hope she did & if so, would also love to know how she is doing now. Jaki |
