Lisa,
If you’d like to learn dancing on2 then I’d recommend Gary’s classes on a Tuesday up in Birmingham. I’ve only been along a couple of times as I’m across in Bristol and it gets to a very late night but they’re well taught and Gary’s a very patient and thorough teacher. It’s definitly worth trying to do a couple of classes to get the basic step solid - as a follower you can sort of fudge it if the leader is on time but fairly often the foot pattern ends up being wrong and some things like spins are slightly different to on1 as its usually taught. If you want to practice then Birmingham is probably your best bet. Closer to home, I’m at Fiesta Havana in Bristol every other week and Irene knows me and so can point me out (I won’t be there this week but will 14th and 21st) I’m always happy to find someone I can dance on2 with.

Hi angelique
Good to hear back from you!
Thanks for explaining how it would all work etc - like lisa, I too was initially worried when I read that it is on 2 as I don’t dance mambo either, but like you said, when it’s in a routine/choreography, it’s very different to having a dance with someone on 2 etc. I am still very interested in meeting you and discussing this more, however, since your very first posting, I have actually been invited to join and started rehearsals with a bristol based performance group and I am therefore not sure of the etiquette regarding being in more than one dance team etc? Unfortunately, although I am in bristol at havanas most Wednesdays, I’ll actually be away on holiday on 21st so sadly won’t get to see you guys there. I’ll then be staying with my family in hampshire til beginning of january. But anyway, we can discuss this further hopefully more directly - so hugh, I would very much like to be contacted by or contact angelique directly.
Thanks again for getting back to us - if I don’t meet you or speak to you before, then have a a great xmas
Bye for now
Nat

hello again

There are no rules reguarding how many groups you are in, it is really up to the person leading the group as to whether or not they mind you being in another group. Personally I don’t mind and actively incourage my girls to do partnership work but I’m not so keen on them being in another all girl group mainly because sometimes this leaves them open to offering part of my choreography or moves that I have taught to them to another team, I myself have done two girls groups at the same time and as I was choreographing my own team and helping with the choreography of the other team it was hard to make sure I didn’t use any of the same moves or ideas in the choreographies. If you have no hand what so ever in the choreopraphy, ( my team have very little but I usually need someone to assist when I choreograph), then it is not really a problem; but if everyone is active and present in the creation process then its not always a good idea. It is also imporatant that you can commit to both groups as there can be a confilct of loyalty, this depends on you the groups and the amount of time you need to put into them.

Hi again girls, Just thought I’d leave a message, well I am trying to figure out how to do this, and I thought I would come down to Cardiff and do a ladies styling course, once a week, I would do it On1 for everyone or anyone who would be interested and keep a second hour or two, for a performance group On2, I would take the girls for the performance group either from the styling class or by audition, so you get a choice. The reason why I do this is
1 it can make the money for the train fare and studio/hall hire, maybe not as much as I’d make working the night in London, but that’s OK by me, as long as I can cover costs
2 Those who want to audition can, especially if you don’t have enough money or time to do a course or feel you don’t need one. But if you’d prefer to be picked and fancy doing the course, or just one lesson you can
3 Those who would just like to learn can.

I do not want to step on any promoteurs toes so it would be good if you could let me know what goes on in Cardiff, I am thinking Fridays or Mondays, I cannot do the weekends as I teach my courses here, and as I have just gotten back I am still arranging my time table I think I’m teaching Mon and Wed’s but will have to check, my workshops will be here on the weekend and I have my other girls here too for Sunday rehersals which are 4 hours long, Just to let you know how it will be.
So maybe a week night but don’t want to clash with anyone. Possibily 730-830 class 830-10pm team trainning. I am also searching for a venue. I thought possibily the Rubicon studios as they are near to town, and I want a mirrored studio. I have also thought about maybe doing bank holiday events in Cardiff. Is anyone doing anything like this??? Most teachers will not travel except for a decent amount of money, but I have good NO great friends who would come and teach workshops and perform. You have some really good venues in Cardiff, if people are willing to pay to go. I am looking into the expense of putting it all together, this will also give the team an opportunity to get used to performing when they are ready. As I haven’t looked into the whole scene there and I really want to but to be honest I don’t know how feisable that is as I am rehearsing for 4 different shows at the moment, so any help appreciated. By the way my team are performing at the British Salsa Festival, for the lady who mentioned it. The standard there is extremely high, and some of the best dancers and teachers in the world will be there. I highly reccomend that you go to this event if you can. Learn everywhere and from everyone, it might be a good idea to find out if any of your promotors are going, and if they could organise a group discount for you guys Salsa UK probably have such a thing.

Like I said I am going to sort out a venue and my costings and I will try to give you at least 10 days notice of my starting this, and we’ll see how it goes.

Hi ang
Hope you’ve had a good xmas
Sounds like a great idea
If you were to run it on a Friday evening then I could attend (I teach on Mondays)
As far as I am aware, there are 2 classes on a Friday - mine at 6-7 and andy’s at 7-8. Neither of these include social dancing after and I believe the level of both is beginners/improvers. There are 2 venues with social dancing on a Friday evening - La Tasca and las iguanas but these both start much later in the evening.
The rubicon would be my preferred choice - I attend ballet and street jazz classes there and it is a lovely venue - I’m sure you have the contact numbers but let me know if you need them.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about the styling and the training - really hope you’ll be able to do it on Fridays!
Have a great new year
Nat
P.s. Congrats on the performance at havanas - I wasn’t there but my flat mate was and he said it was great!

Hi Ang. Hope you had a great christmas & new year my name is Dennis, I saw your performance at FH which I enjoyed. Had a dance with you. I heard through the grapevine that you are thinking of expanding Seraphim to include men. If that’s the case, I will be interested in joining as long as we will be doing fun, challenging and exciting stuff.

My email is dennis.ehiobu@gmail.com or can I only contact you through this forum? Also what does your audition entail?
