Message 1 · 22 Sep 2005 15:49 GMT Was Tuesday a typical night in Cuba Club?? I couldn’t find the venue until past 10 so missed the lesson - which was a shame cos Andy looks like a good teacher... I can understand why some guys may find the crowd a bit clicky - hence my question... A fantastic Venue - great for a Salsa Party I would imagine... There was a couple of good bloke leads dancing freestyle but seemed to have a monopoly on the good women dancers - a had a couple of good dances with the women that were free... but following a couple of merengue tracks... most of the dancers disapeared (11:30)... Faced with a 2hr trip home I made tracks too... Is it worth me coming again? Greg |

Message 2 · 22 Sep 2005 16:19 GMT I used to be the biggest Cuba fan, but I now find that there are not enough men to do social dancing with, so the whole social thing dies pretty quickly, so I don’t really bother going. The music dies along with it, as the DJ plays more merengue/Latin pop etc. To satisfy the non-dancing crowd later on. There’s competition from Callaghan’s (and Zync) which is where a lot of dancers go now. Have heard on the grapevine though, that next week is the last time that there will be salsa at Callaghan’s... does anyone know if this is true? If so, it could maybe increase the number of dancers (and persuade a music shift) at Cuba... |

Message 3 · 23 Sep 2005 06:55 GMT Cuba isn’t at all typical - The Toad on Thursdays is much better. If you like dancing late, go to La Tasca on Saturdays which doesn’t start until 11. Callaghan’s is going out with a bang next Tuesday, with a display from Iris de Brito and Osbanis. |

Message 4 · 23 Sep 2005 08:33 GMT Going back to Cuba... It has been particularly quiet the last few weeks... maybe switch over time with uni?? But Andy’s class is really worth a go, he’s a fantastic teacher. I see what you mean about the click, I felt the same when I started going, but when you get to know people they’re really very friendly. I’ve heard a lot of people talking about the music lately, I was one of the people who left at 11:30 on Tuesday!! It’s not always been like that, hopefully it’s just a ‘odd’ phase!! May see ya in there. |

Message 6 · 29 Sep 2005 15:33 GMT It varies from week to week - some weeks I’m kept very busy, some weeks there’s a surplus of men. (I’m using an alternative username in case anyone thinks I’m boasting!) |

Message 7 · 2 Oct 2005 12:12 GMT It depends for both of these things... Cuba varies... I used to love it but now not so much... the floor is awful which makes dancing very hard... and, before any comments are made, I have tried many different shoes and none seem to be any good! Also it’s been quiet lately, which should change now the students are back etc but it is quite clicky... loads of tarts and men on the pull and after about 11.30 the atmosphere changes and it doesn’t feel like a nice place to dance... too many drunks etc! I love The Toad but not so much recently... there is a real lack of women at the mo... could be for a number of reasons... To be honest... I’ve lost interest in The Toad as lessons are way too crowded and Andy always lets people in the lesson that really shouldn’t, hence the ladies getting hurt or annoyed and probably why so many have stopped going! I’ve spoken to many people who all have the same opinion and are considering stopping going... particularly those in improvers... its ridiculous... no space at all! Anyway rant over, oh, the social dancing at The Toad is fab but I’d skip the lessons. |

Message 8 · 3 Oct 2005 10:41 GMT Yeah, I’ve done the improvers class at The Toad and it was farcial, trying to dance in that little space. It also blocks the stairs to the toilets so it’s a bit of an assault course if you ever need to pee. I suppose these sorts of things are self-correcting though, if there’s not enough space it stops people going and then there is enough space. That said it’s a nice venue if you’re not doing classes and there are some pleasant people there, but to be honest the last time or two I’ve bothered, I’ve just gone with the other half to listen to the music and have drinks, I’ve not danced or wanted to. |

Message 9 · 3 Oct 2005 15:23 GMT The other problem with the improvers at The Toad is no one wants to leave Nat’s class! She’s such a fab teacher and person and everyone loves her lesson. It’s great that it’s so popular but I think it would help if the floor arrangements were considered. I nearly got elbowed going to the loo too so that’s also a problem. It’s a shame coz the people there are great and the atmosphere is fab but most people don’t wanna hang round til gone 11 when there is actually space to dance. |
