Listen Chum! I’ve already retracted my comments that Tammia and Abi’s success wasn’t justified!!! I’ll quickly say it again incase you’re a bit ‘slow’ - that’s S L O W.
* If other dancers of Tammi / Abi’s standard (ie TEACHERS) were also competing in the same catagory then it is a fair win.
Regarding my “putting you all to rights”... I said a was a FANTASTIC DANCER, not a fantastic teacher and NEVER have I commented on anybody’s standard apart from giving my opinion of the best teacher IMHO. Read all the postings again WITH YOUR GLASSES ON!
You say that salsa is simply for fun?!? Well that’s interesting, lets take a look at the whole concept of a competetion then. I could of sworn it is when people compare their skills against each other to find the BEST competitor. This will normally involve paying an entrance fee, practice, looking for music, practice, commitment, more practice, following rules and on the day, concentration, nerves, determination, effort and - you’ve guessed it - more practice and you’re saying salsa is simply “a bit of a laugh?” Now the truth is that YES, for driven competitors, there is a lot of fun to be had, but it is MUCH MORE THAN THAT, the whole concept of entering is to WIN.
When people say “Oh I entered for a laugh” that’s codswallop! What they’re actually saying is:
• “I’m not good enough to win so if I say it’s a laugh that’s my excuse if I don’t”
Or - less commonly -
• “I know I’m gonna win so if I say it’s a laugh it makes me less cocky and arrogant”
If you watch the big salsa contests - Club tropicana, the Mayan etc etc then you’ll see the amount of work that is needed. And if people don’t enter to win then, unless it is a little NODDY contest among a group of friends, then they are wasting their time.
