Well yes and no. It can, or perhaps should, be danced closer than salsa (without getting into discussion about styles of salsa), but it varies according to how comfortable your partner feels with you, the moves you are doing, and (perhaps more pressingly at the moment) how well you can dance. Most of us that are currently learning with Andy probably keep some distance to avoid trampling on feet more than anything else.
Having said that, there are probably more opportunities for inappropriate contact, and there have been times when 1 or 2 men have got far closer to a partner than is acceptable by anyone other than a sexual partner.
So it’s an issue to be aware of but I wouldn’t want this to scare anyone off. Overall it’s a very good class, and I have a great laugh despite it being hard work. Its currently a small group, equal numbers of men and women, and I’d encourage anyone to give it a go.
Just like a salsa class it’s attended mostly by singles and the class rotates regularly.
