Message 1 · 24 Sep 2003 07:51 GMT John Pamplin announced this week that Bar Med is to be refurbished sometime in October and the dancefloor is to disappear under carpet.
So, he's asking for suggestions for alternative venues on a Monday. |

Message 3 · 25 Sep 2003 00:32 GMT Difficult one, this. I hear that he's thinking of moving it to a venue in Whitchurch, which will be a real problem for the carless (students make up a fair proportion of his punters). He needs a big venue, so somewhere like O'Neills wouldn't be spacious enough. Wonder whether the Social is available on a Monday night?" |

Anyone know what that's like? |

Message 5 · 30 Sep 2003 04:03 GMT Thanks for the info, Alun. I've never been to a class at the Old Monk so I can't add anything. |

Edited by: Tom Message 6 · 30 Sep 2003 04:58 GMT Good wooden floor, but the venue was a bit dingy when I went there a few months ago. It may have improved since then. |

Message 7 · 15 Oct 2003 03:03 GMT Well, I suppose it is, but its a minor quibble. As someone who thinks he's achieved something when he doesn't count out loud in a woman's face, I usually have more pressing things to concentrate on than the surroundings. I can see the dancefloor getting a little crowded if numbers match those in the last few weeks at Bar Med.
On the plus side, the staff were happy to extend the night beyond 11.00. |

Message 8 · 15 Oct 2003 06:52 GMT The dance floor is good if a bit small. The flashing lights are distracting even for experienced dancers.
I had a good time cos some of my favourite dancers were there, even though when I got there the intermediate class was a vision of salsa hell - jam-packed, lots of couples trying to dance a sequence when many of them hadn't got the basics of rhythm or lead, no way could the teacher check on individuals' dancing even if he was inclined to. |
