Hi. I have just started salsa and came accross a website called Suzi Q Dance Wear. As I live in cyprus there weren’t any good shops. They sold some really cool stuff and not bad prices. Check it out.

Hey
In response to the previous question about shoes as long as the soles are smooth you should be alright. However, if the soles are made of rubber beware you can damage the floors and it will provide more resistance during turns. The more resistance on the soles of your shoes the more likely you are to damage muscles around your knees, so be warned. As far as dressing for males go, sweaters are a definate no no. There is nothing worse than getting a mouthful of sweater during a spin. Athletic apparel from any major company should work just fine. Try running gear, it is tight fitting and generally breathable and moves with you, not against you. Hope that helped.

* Thank God for dri-weave!!! Wear your favorite mid-calf black workout pants with a dri-weave tank, and top it off with a loose thin contrasting top! The dri-weave will not only keep the moisture off your skin, but it also dries quickly. Just remember that lighter colors show sweat and darker doesn’t... as much... lol... I also like dri-weave cargo-type of sorts/pants because I can safely store my ID/mints/cash/key/etc...

* Thank God for waterproof makeup!!! Keep your make-up light and simple since it’s going to sweat off anyways. Wear a good WP mascara and eye liner. Use one of those 12-hr lipsticks so you don’t have to carry a lipstick all night. Do a creme blush too, but remember... keep it simple.

* Shoes... I absolutely hate dancing in heels! I wear them all week long, so dancing in 3 to 4“ heels is not my idea of a good time! Try 2” or dance sneakers. You can also turn your favorite pair into dance shoes by placing tape on the bottom. Just make sure they’re not slip-ons or flip-flops.

* Gum!!! Please, please, please don’t forget your breath! Use mints or gum ALL NIGHT LONG please!!!

GUYS...
* Nike makes very nice dri-weave shirts! Under Armor makes really cool shirts too, esp if you have the body for those really tight shirts! But please wear dark colors. There’s not too many women that like headlights on a man!

* Pants? Linen/Rayon/workout pants/workout shorts... You can always wear something comfortable underneath :D

* Shoes? I think guys have it easy here...

* Sweat? I have a friend who wears a sweatband... It’s better than having sweat dripping all over a girl. Sweatbands are good too.

... and please do something about your breath especially if you’re taller than the girl. Thanks!

Pretty good advice. The only thing I disagree with is the breath stuff. I simply can’t stand dancing in clouds of mint vapour. Ditto watching my partner chew gum. What’s with this obsession with breath anyway? This “me” is from Texas, so maybe it’s a reaction to all that spicy Tex-Mex food.

With all the talk about dry weave clothing and sweat bands, the other comment must be, please shower and apply fresh deodorant before you go dancing.

I agree with you on watching your partner chew gum! But I also don’t want to be dancing close to somebody and smelling the garlic bread they ate a few hours earlier!

Dry weave clothing? Sweat bands??? All we need now are leggings and we can re-create Flashdance...

Must dig out my pink legwarmers, little tight white shorts and re-perm my hair, well what’s left of it anyways, whilst listening to ‘Footloose’... ;-).

Don’t say you weren’t all warned!

LOL, I think you just want to get a girl on the stage who will get a big bucket of water tipped over her and dance around soaking wet! ; ) (am hoping you weren’t planning on doing that yourself) hehehe
