Message 21 · 12 Apr 2005 18:13 GMT I agree with Scarlett. We all share in a common interest even though we might be a mixed bag of nuts. We all have different reasons for dancing salsa and I have made wonderful friends. I have found the teachers in Cardiff helpful and encouraging. I unfortunately had my foot kicked abruptly into place in a Class in Swindon and encountered a teacher from the North who was rather grumpy. However I feel sure that they all have their own individual strengths... And I must say I enjoyed the free dancing after. To gain greater understanding of what is expected of me I have attempted to dance as the male lead, as I am aware that I am an expressive dancer and am concerned that this may cause difficulties. I suppose we Welsh girls are the hazelnuts of the pack. Rich in fibre and full of energy. |

Message 22 · 12 Apr 2005 20:21 GMT Thanks for the support Handy Mandy although its Starlet not Scarlet - but maybe that does suit me better!! I always fanced myself as more of a macadamia nut - due to its connection to exotic destinations - you don't easily come by these in Wales! |

Message 23 · 12 Apr 2005 20:36 GMT I must say I am rather taken aback by the comments directed towards me from Mr.Chips and other ladies!!! Please re-read my 1st post, not once do I advocate a total disregard for fellow dancers. I just voiced the opinion that many of us dance for fun!! Also Mr C I may not be the best dancer around but as you don’t know me how can you pass judgements? If nothing else I do feel the music and do connect with my partner - I am not one of those looking around for somebody better to dance with! I am friendly to one and all... Like a true Welsh lass!! Lastly many thanks to El Diablito - do you ride a white charger? |

Message 24 · 12 Apr 2005 20:55 GMT Welsh Lass, I hope you didn't think I was attacking you and I sincerely apologise if that's how I came over. I suppose I was a bit grumpy after a crap night in the Toad. Sadly, it seems even to my inexperienced eyes that some people just don't pay attention as to where they're pointing their partners and their own body parts! |

Brazen Hussy

Message 26 · 12 Apr 2005 22:49 GMT I have been going to salsa now for a number of years. In the beginning I did go to classes. I also had some private lessons from a local teacher, as I thought that this would improve my dancing. I really wanted to learn. I must have spent a small fortune over the years on classes and private lessons. I don't do lessons any more because I'm happy with the way I dance and I don't think I'm really going to learn alot more from the local teachers. I was only ever shown turn patterns. Some of the finer details of leading and following were never fully explained to me. It was like you were just expected to know where to go or what to do. I'm considered a reasonably good dancer around these parts and have no problem following some of guys leads. Even if they are a bit rough and not very sure of themselves. But when I venture out to other places I find it difficult to follow. I'm ok on cuban but it's the cross body lead style of dancing that I struggle with. |

Message 28 · 13 Apr 2005 18:46 GMT I think Brazen Hussy should continue dancing for pleasure. I have always found that when I dance in other parts of the country other people... in general... accommodate my style. Have a bit of fun... your name suggests you can. Live a little. |

Message 30 · 14 Apr 2005 15:46 GMT Hi all, I started salsa on Monday, I enjoyed it but I did find it a bit strange when u had to dance with the men as sum of them knew what they were doing and others didn’t. So it’s not always the women who can’t follow, sum of the men can’t lead. |
