My friend and I are looking to go to classes. We are COMPLETE beginners, have no idea what to wear, where to go, what we would do, etc. Any advice on these things and things we should be aware of would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Claire

Hi Claire

Take a look at the Salsa Cardiff frequently asked questions page. If it doesn't tell you what you need to know, please post again.

Thanks for that info Hugh. Do you have an recommendations as for where to start?

Well, my personal preference has been for Thursdays at The Toad, but tomorrow is the last night in that venue. With luck, they'll find a new place soon. All the classes have something to offer; it's best to try a few out and see which you prefer, they don't cost much.

I've heard the one in Bar Cuba is good on a Tuesday night...what's your opinion?

I haven't been to Bar Cuba for a long time. While it was fun as a nightclub I found it a bit too small and crowded to actually learn much salsa. Also, the floor tended to get covered in beer and broken glass, not good for my shoes, I thought.

Maybe someone who's been to Bar Cuba recently can let us know what it's like these days.

For beginners, I'd recommend Sunday at the Wharf or Monday at O'Neill's.

Bobby

The wharf is a great class on sundays. Definatly recommend that.
If your prepared to venture to newport, Mondays at The Riverfront is quite good, Large amount of space, tho the ratio of men to women isn't all that great. (More women). This class is also taught by Andy Witt

Thanks for that TB and Bobby. Work on a Sunday night so that cuts that one out and dont finish until 7 on Mondays - what time does the Monday class start??

Salsa at O'Neill's on Monday starts at 7.00pm and Thursday at The Toad has been reprieved, for a month or so at least, so that might be worth a look for you. Details are on the listings page.
