Message 1 · 2 Aug 2003 06:38 GMT I went to the Social last night. It's on the corner opposite Gassy Jack's. It's got a nice relaxed atmosphere: big dance floor, Thano DJing, not too many people (yet) and no drunk muggles lurching around. Only downsides are that the floor is slippery and it gets hot.
There are workshops 7-9 and then dancing 9-12: I did JC's spinning workshop which was very useful, and I gather Andy's doing a 5-week series of workshops starting next Saturday - I think you may need to book in advance for that one. |

Message 3 · 26 Aug 2003 07:36 GMT Went to the Social on Friday and while it's still hot, the floor is much less slippery than before.
BTW they don't provide free water - you have to buy bottled mineral water at £1 a pint. I think this is quite reasonable, particularly considering that at one stage Journeys were charging £2 for a small bottle and refusing to provide tap water. (If I'm in a venue that offers free tap water I always buy a drink as well, as salsa nights that don't make any money on drinks don't tend to last very long.) |

Message 4 · 26 Aug 2003 11:16 GMT Hello Chat Room!
Following on from Tom's last comments...
From my days of Bartending I am almost 100% sure that it is a legal requirement that pubs / clubs / restaurants must serve water if demanded for free.
However this will cost the venue: - (water rates, glass washing, chemicals, heating etc.) Therefore they try to charge people. If they don't make the money behind the bar - we get thrown out.
The biggst plea now goes out to everyone who reads this...
DESPITE YOUR LEGAL RIGHT TO FREE WATER PLEASE PURCHASE A SOFT DRINK OR BOTTLED WATER LIKE TOM DOES because if the venues don't get the return behind the bar, they will cancel the salsa.
This is what happened with Steve West and Bar M. |

Message 5 · 11 Sep 2003 09:35 GMT Paul's right about tap water for free. This comes from the effect of Ectacsy - on dehydration. I can't say about this medically.
From my work with the Drugs / Alcohol unit I'm sure that as Paul said 'It is obligatory|' - Places have been prosecuted for cutting off the taps in the toilets.
Best wishes

Message 6 · 11 Sep 2003 10:09 GMT Journeys used to claim that they 'had problems with the plumbing and didn't have any cold water' - quite how they were preparing food I'm not sure! Anyway, last week in the Social they were providing tap water without arguing. |
