Message 11 · 29 Mar 2005 09:43 GMT Hi, Lynda Honestly, you have nothing to fear. People are friendly and many go alone. You'll be kept busy for about an hour in the class. Don't scuttle off straight after, stay and watch the other dancers and have a dance or two yourself for practice. |

Message 13 · 30 Mar 2005 08:14 GMT For beginners I'd recommend the Wharf on a Sunday or O'Neill's on a Monday. |

Message 15 · 3 Apr 2005 15:48 GMT Hi, I've been really wanting to start salsa etc dancing, and don't have too much of a worry about going alone but was wondering if any of you guys who were posting about going for the first time tried anywhere in Cardiff they'd reccommend? I have to go by public transport/foot so the bay isn't really feasible. Thanks, Sophie :o) |

Message 16 · 3 Apr 2005 16:11 GMT Hi Sophie The Toad on Thursdays is pretty good, the Cuba Bar on Tuesdays is a bit hectic for a beginner to really learn anything. I think it's useful to try out a few different classes to see which suits you best and, anyway, if you get keen you'll want to go more often than once a week. |

Message 17 · 3 Apr 2005 16:18 GMT Thanks for that. My friend tried Cuba and said it was hard to see anything that was going on, plus I already take another evening class on Thursday. People seem to be talking about O'Neils on a Monday, do you reccommend that for a begnner? Also, with reference to footwear, I have character shoes which are sutitable for dance, or is a jazz shoe more appropriate? Thankyou |

Message 18 · 3 Apr 2005 16:32 GMT I haven't been to O'Neill's for a while so I can't offer an opinion but many people seem to like it. Salsa is pretty forgiving of shoes, they need to be comfortable, not too high, with a fairly smooth sole so you can spin easily. Anything that fits that description will be ok. |

Message 19 · 4 Apr 2005 08:18 GMT lynda -- I've been going to beginners classes for a month now and believe me there are some people there who are really smooth but there are plenty of people like me who are still getting the hang of the basics! You won't feel out of place. |
