I called into the Oz Bar last night and although there were not many people, good dancable music was being played. The Oz Bar is a big space with a good wooden floor so, in future weeks, it could become an excellent addition to the salsa scene in Cardiff.

Mikey

Hello Everyone, I hope you can all make it to the oz bar next Monday. But apart from that, I would just like to take this time, to annouce the BIGGEST LATIIN AMERICAN PARTY is on its way to Cardiff...

DATE - SUNDAY 19TH Dec
PLACE - Music Room, Upstairs O'Neill's.
TIME - 7.40 PM TILL 12.00MID

There will be music from all over played, a bit of a samba show, PINATA (hit with a stick) Sangria, and a raffle.
The entry fee will be only £1 and that will be used towards the ticket for the raffle.

ALL AGES WELCOME...
Hope to see you all there
Thanks

If anyone was wondering (like me) what a piñata is, here's the answer.

Hang on a minute. Monday at O'Neill's is run by John Pamplin. What's going on here?

What do you mean, Wizzy?

Calm down Wizzy. The party is on Sunday. It all sounds great so I'll be there.

Grrrr - I mean that I don't want to see John's night and venue poached by someone else. He was the ORIGIONAL salsa teacher in cardiff, before Steve West, Rohan, Andy and certainly before Mike / Luciana. He was initially forced out of the Toucan due to underhand backstabbing and I'd hate to see it again.

I do agree with you Wizzy

It would be nice if 'New Promoters' would,

1. Find different venues.
2. At least try to bring new people (by providing teaching etc).
and advertising rather than poaching.
3. Try also to promote their stuff on a different night.

But after saying that... Salsa promotion is a business like any
other - the strong survive and the weak go to the wall.

It sounds like a contradiction I know, but it's just a way of saying support those people who run quality nights and in a way that's suits your own ethics.

John is strong enough to survive any challenges - he has been the most consistent of all the promoters in Cardiff thus far after all.

By the way to clear up your misconception... And offer a little bit of information regarding the history...

The first person to bring Salsa to Cardiff was a guy
called Misha (I think that was his name) from London.
It was about 10 Yrs ago and didn't last long.

Then I started the first regular / consistent night at the Toucan Club.

Naturally I fell out with the management (I usually do)
and John Pamplin working for Sally Beard the original
owner of SalsaMania took over.

Confused? If not, you're probably a genius!!
