Hiya guys

I am new to this board, a complete beginner and want to have some private lessons before I stray out in public.

Can anyone recommend either a private teacher or a dance school in the Cardiff area.

looking forward to hearing your responses.

Hi Matteas

There is no substitute for going to the clubs and seeing the teachers for yourself. Then, if you want to spend the money to improve faster you can ask your favourite teacher for a few private lessons.

I can't recommend the dance schools, those that offer salsa are very "ballroom latin" oriented and that style (over-stylised and affected, in my opinion) is not suitable for dancing salsa in clubs.

wizzy

Private lessons (with a salsa teacher - not latin ballroom) range anything from £15 to possibly £30 / £40 per HOUR. This is a lot of dosh by any standards. The main teachers in Cardiff are:-
Andy Witt
John Pamplin (John lives in Bath however)
Paul Gordon-Smith
Katy James

The best advice is to ask the dancers in the clubs about the pro's and con's of each teacher and tke it from there.

none

You are probably better off trying the general classes first. Don't worry, everyone is crap to start with.

All those teachers would be good for private lessons, but John and Paul (who teaches at the David Lloyd centre) are particularly good with beginners.

Private lessons are best when you're already at improvers/intermediate level and want to go further. Andy's private lessons are brilliant and well worth the £30 an hour if you can afford it.
