Hi
I've never been to a Salsa class, but I love the music, have been to Cuba and I used to love to dance. However, is it possible to go along to where the dance lessons are held before committing to do them and if it is possible, (to take a look before signing up)is there any particular venue the Salsa veterens here would recommend?

Hi Steve

All the salsa nights in Cardiff run classes on the drop-in principle ie, you just go along and join in the class that's at your level - the cost is around the £3 mark - you don't have to sign up for a course of classes.

Some places can get a bit crowded and hectic, I would say the most spacious and relaxed places for a beginner to go would be Mondays at Life and Wednesdays at The Music Room (O'Neill's). Details on the listings page.

I'd agree, you do need space and teachers who break the moves down properly. I'd suggest that even if you're happy with a particular teacher it's worth trying other teachers occasionally just to see if they offer something different that will help you move on - sometimes you just need a slightly different input to help you make a breakthrough.

And don't be surprised if it takes you a long time to get good - it took a year before anybody said anything nice about my leading!
