Message 2 · 20 Apr 2004 14:38 GMT Tammi and I went to Fiesta Havana this Friday, just gone, and I have to say it was really good! It's a fair bit quieter than the Wednesday evenings', but still far busier than any venue in Cardiff. I'm not sure what the classes are like, but the freestyle afterwards was great. The men's standard of dancing is very high, with both Nigel and Karim making a good night even better! I can't really comment on the dancing ability of the women; but if it feels as good as it looks, then you should be in for a good night men! Especially with two of your favourite Salsaras being there! ;) |

Edited by: Tom Message 5 · 25 Apr 2004 01:54 GMT Thanks for the recommendation, Maria. Clare and I went on Friday night (shame you and Tammi weren't there). I had a good time even though I was in end of working week zombie mode until about midnight... The class from guest teachers Lanre and Angelique - who are wonderful dancers - was very good, I thought, even though we only arrived halfway through. Clear technical advice for both men and women, including advice for the men from the woman's perspective. I would have said the level of the class was improvers to intermediate, but it was one of those classes where everyone can get something out of it. And Angelique dances with her students : ) Atmosphere was friendly. A few muggles but they didn't really get in the way. As you say, it's quiet compared with their Wednesdays. I actually thought it was better - more space to dance and some new faces. Nice mixture of levels with the women: some very good, some talented improvers (good for checking that the lead really works). I'll be going again. |

Message 6 · 26 Apr 2004 04:12 GMT I didn't do the class but I thought the warm-up and warm-down routines were really nice (so much so that I pinched a bit for the warm up at the Claverton Rooms on Saturday :) Angelique was terrific - I think she must have danced with everyone by the end of the night! Very friendly. I hope people will support the Friday events at Fiesta Havana, its been a while since we had a Friday night in the area, and Steve is bringing down some of the very best teachers in the UK. |

Message 7 · 27 Apr 2004 11:21 GMT It was a shame I missed it! It sounds like you all had a great evening. I could do with 'borrowing' a new warm up routine myself :) I'll make the extra effort to get there this Friday. A good regular Friday night, is certainly something that I will be supporting and mentioning to others. |

Message 8 · 27 Apr 2004 12:43 GMT It was a grat night and getting a dance from Nigel made my night. Sorry Tom enjoyed dancing with you too, but Nigel is in a league of his own!A live Cuban band this coming Friday looks even better, pity there weren't more Cuban dancers around, guess I'll just have to persuade my Glasgow pals to come down to Cardiff soon to show us all how it's really done |

Message 10 · 1 May 2004 08:59 GMT Something a little off the topic that I thought might be worth mentioning is a 'group' known as The Drum Cafe. They are an Africa Group, who play a good bit of everything Samba, Salsa and Tribal dance related. The one performer from Senegal is also a Dance Teacher, and crikey can that boy move, as well as play!! For anyone who loves their live entertainment, like Fridays in Fiesta Havana, then these people are certainly worth going to see. I stumbled across them at a Business Conference for Team Building this week and with my own little Africa Drum, couldn't help but tap out some Salsa rhythm. It's not essential to get involved in the performance, I just couldn't help myself :) but for anyone interested in their 'general public' performances; I have a list on it's way to me. |
