Salsa Kiss

At this time of year alot of people turn to activities like Salsa as something new to try. Alot of the venues are over run with new recuits, over the weeks that follow the numbers thin out and people stop coming.

I nearly did this 2 years ago and am so glad that I didn’t as Salsa has given me so much, below is ‘My Salsa Journey’

Please feel free to add your Salsa Journey’s too and hopefully this will encourage people to stick at and enjoy it as much as possible.

MY JOURNEY
I started salsa just over two years ago. To be honest, it wasn’t my idea, I went along with a friend because she wanted to go. After the first week I was unsure whether I was going to go again, but I did. As the weeks progressed I started to enjoy it more and more.

Now, looking back on those inital few weeks I am glad that I started ‘My salsa journey.’ Since the beginning, my circumstances have changed.

Salsa has given me a social outlet that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It has allowed be to meet so many different people of all ages and helped me make some GREAT friends!

Each week I look forward to going both for the social element and the dancing. Although I am not the most confident of dancers, people generally are very encouraging.

To sum it up Salsa plays a major part in my life and I enjoy it so much!

Come on everyone tell about your salsa journeys, I know that there are some great stories out there!

Keep at it!!

I’m glad I’ve come across this message because I need a bit of encouragement right now with my dancing. I started lessons about 2 months ago and am enjoying them but don’t feel I’m improving much. Do people sugest home practise? I don’t have anyone to practise with and I’m certainly not good enough to go out dnaincg yet. Did anyone else find this with their Salsa journey?

Hi mm,

Yes we have all been there, and really the only way to get better is to practice. I know exactly how you feel it took me almost 3 months to even start asking partners to dance, and about 8 months to even start to get any sense of the rhythm!

Everyone has a different pace of learning and we all want to get better too quickly. Be patient, by all means practice your basic steps at home as you would do in a beginners / improvers line up, but also dance after the classes as well!

Asking someone to dance can be daunting. On the one hand you’re itching to get out there, but you just lack that bit of confidence. Ask someone who is encouraging or you feel you click with during the classes to dance with you after the classes.

Gradually your confidence will build week after week, but don’t be put off if sometimes occasionally you don’t have such a good night, confidence comes and goes in waves.

Hope this helps, be bold, good luck and have fun!

Ask me! I teach the beginners every Thursday in Jumpin Jaks and I am always up for dancing with beginners, especially if you are one of my beginners.
