Message 22 · 23 Mar 2004 13:53 GMT Hi everyone. This is just a final reminder concerning this Saturday. It would be great to see all the old faces, but new ones are welcome too! You should love David Lloyds as a venue. The dancefloor is a good size (although not enormous)and the function room is great. Hopefully if you come and get the guest pass then on another occaision you'll be able to go along, have a swim, use the jaccuzzi / sauna / steam room etc and maybe, if you're feeling flush, you might even join. Any requests for lesson moves / songs / mixing (!) then just let me know :-) See you on Saturday. Regards Paul G-S |

Message 23 · 23 Mar 2004 13:59 GMT PS - after reading all the other threads I promise that... I will not move people on too quickly. Nor will I make sure your stuck with a no hoper too long. I will endevour to make sure people are dancing in the correct class for their standard. I shall not shout "freeze" in the middle of a move. I shall look out for crazey dancers and keep them under control. I shall not mix any salsa songs, nor will I play excessive merengue or Lambada. I will make sure the lesson is safe and people don't get injured and also check my public liability insurance policy! Anything else I've forgotten then just let me know. And Tom... I promise I'll only play "lady" with your express permission lol. |

Message 24 · 24 Mar 2004 02:44 GMT Glad you're reading the forum in the right spirit, Paul. I want it to be a useful resource for everyone, from the rawest beginner to experienced dancers and teachers. I hope Saturday night is a big success, I'll certainly be there. |

Message 25 · 24 Mar 2004 03:51 GMT I like the oath of allegiance, Paul, but presume it doesn't bind you unless sworn on some Fania All Stars vinyl? Remember that Cha Cha Slide thing you used to torture us with in Life? Looks like its finally hitting the mainstream a year later. So my one small request for Saturday is that you resist the urge to demonstrate your obvious skill as a musical visionary by inflicting it on a new set of unsuspecting victims. |

Message 26 · 24 Mar 2004 06:25 GMT I'm with you on that, Alun. By the way, Paul, it's not me that complains about Lady - it's not a track I'd put on a compilation myself but I enjoy dancing it with the right partner. It's better than some of the unspeakable salsa cover versions that John inflicts on us on a Monday! I don't think I"ll be able to get there this Saturday but I hope it goes well. |

Message 27 · 27 Mar 2004 04:17 GMT Yes it's here - the night you've all been waiting for... and I'm not talking about how England are going to win the Six nations (again)once more showing our supremecy as Rugby world champions!!! NO - Instead I'm talking about the SALSA!! Doors open at 6.30 for a prompt beginners lesson time of 7pm. I'm desperately going to keep to the time table so freestyle should start at 9pm sharp. Hopefully everyone will have a great evening and thankyou everyone for such positive comments thru' the message board. |

Message 28 · 28 Mar 2004 01:51 GMT Final thoughts before this thread is closed down. A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the night at DL such a great success - ie all of you! It really was good to see so many familiar faces who I haven't seen since the Toad - as well as new people who have been dancing since I'd left. David Lloyd were REALLY impressed with the turn out and certainly would be interested in repeating the evening. I would be tempted to make it a regular (ish) event in Cardiff but would like to think of it as Ice Cream. By that, what I mean is to only have it every four / six weeks...That way it always remains a treat that you don't get sick of it. I always strive to make things better for people so any comments - criticisms either post them here or email me - salsa.dance@ntlworld.com I am already aware of the finishing time and food "glitch" See you all again soon. Happy dancing and Happy Easter. PS - don't forget to put your clocks forward |

Message 29 · 29 Mar 2004 02:24 GMT I enjoyed it - hope it can go on longer next time. One small problem with venues with lots of seating is it's hard for men to tell which women can dance/want to dance when they are seated. So girls, if you want to dance, make it obvious. Get on the dancefloor and practice some steps or dance with your girlfriends. If you just sit on your butt waiting to be asked, you might be left sitting there all night! |
