Hey all...

Am just in the completing stages with the council, organising a ‘Salsa Day’ on Queen St in Cardiff. The plan is to have a live Latino band playing as well as CD’s for your and the general shoppers enjoyment right bang in the centre of town on Queen St. Did this up in a London shopping centre last year (we had ‘Palenke’ as our live band) and was a huge success, people could dance in the area provided in front of the band, passers by shoppers etc could join in, watch and we would have a fun class etc. The idea being to allow people to see and enjoy what salsa music and dance has to offer, encourage more people into the dance scene, have some fun and for existing dancers to also enjoy a free band, lesson, music and strut there stuff live on the Queen St!

Only problem is... we need an electriciy generator to plug into! Does anyone know a local amiable firm that I can try and ask that may be will be willing to provide one... in return for lots and lots of free advertising.

Cheers guys...

Talk to A plant or Brandon tool hire but depending on were you do their is power in some of the lamp posts this is 16amp cee form connectors so you would need to get a jumper to go from 16amp to 13amp via an rcd breaker, speak to stage lighting services they will have them and small Pa systems, like wise you won’t need much and if you speak nicely to one of the shops you can run a mains lead from there.
If you need more advice let me know

Cheers Red Man... I think the problem here is that running any kind of lead from anywhere that is in anyones path (especially Queen St shoppers) is gonna be a health and safety hazard. We really need a generator that we can just plonk right behind the band out of anyones and harms way and plug em in...

My dad used to do a lot of work with lighting etc and he says he may be able to recommend a couple of places but he would need some more information.

When were you thinking of running this? How long would it last, and how much power would be needed. If you can let me know this I can pass it on to him and see what he says

Cheers Becky... am just waiting for confirmation from the band on this... otherwise it may be a no goer and will have to wait till next Summer.

At the moment we are looking at 23rd of September. Power for about 3 hours to feed a 10 piece band and play CD music...

Can he help? Feel free to email me on ‘sktrad@hotmail.com’.

Thanks. :-)

Ok the one my dad was thinking of is in Jersey right now and he doesnt thisnk it would be strong enough to supply the amount of power you would need. HIs recommendation is tro contract a hire company of some sort and try them. There’s a hire company on Colchester avenue, they might have something.

Maybe they would be able to do you some kind of deal for the day.

Sorry I can’t help more
