Message 22 · 20 Feb 2009 18:04 GMT Hi again Daniel, Yes, come along to La Tasca on Saturdays in Cardiff, it’s in the Brewery Quarter off St Mary’s Street and Caroline Street, locally known as Chippy Alley. A map link can be found here. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=318390&y=176135&z=0&sv=CF10+1FG&s t=2&pc=CF10+1FG&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf It’s quite a small venue, but it’s long established, there is live percussion and the atmosphere is great! It’s from 11:00 pm until 2:00 am. |

Message 25 · 17 Mar 2009 13:01 GMT Hi S, Generally La Tasca is the only place you can go in Cardiff for Salsa on a Saturday, except when there are occasionlly one off party events. The main style is LA, but there are usually a fair proportion of Cuban style dancers there as well. Hope this helps. |

Message 26 · 10 Jun 2009 16:43 GMT Hi, unfortunately there’s never enough room to dance properly in La Tasca, I can’t have a dance there without being trodden on or elbowed. Also unfortunately it’s not a Salsa-only crowd, so whenever you go you get solicited to dance by a drunk football fan who’s never even heard of Salsa. Shame it’s the only place to dance on a Saturday, which is meant to be the main night of the week. But I guess we shouldn’t complain, at least we have somewhere! |

Message 27 · 11 Jun 2009 12:12 GMT There would be plenty more places to dance Salsa on a Friday/Saturday if Salsa people would understand the simple logic of supporting the bar!! As every other social group seem to!! If each individual spent between £5 & £10 over the bar there would be many more happy venue owners and hence many more places to go of a weekend!!! It is that simple... P.S. Spending money over the bar doesn’t necessarily entail getting drunk |

Message 28 · 11 Jun 2009 16:51 GMT Hi Clare, When I first started going to La Tasca, like you I was rather frustrated with lack of space, but gradually I found it was the best place to go because of the atmosphere is great! On occasions this year it has been as busy as I’ve known it. Sometimes when there are events on at the Millennium Stadium like the ‘Monster Jam’ last weekend, it can get a bit chaotic later on with the non-salsa dancers invading the dance areas and ladding about if they are rather drunk. Having said this, it all adds to atmosphere. Provided the space is consistent, dancing in a small area though can really improve your dancing as it makes you take smaller neater steps. A few months ago Andy featured a mini workshop on this theme in one of the last Sunday classes at Purple Lounge before it stopped running. |

Message 29 · 11 Jun 2009 17:23 GMT Full marks to Andy for providing a great place to dance, even if there are caveats and as you say people do adapt to whatever the environment is... muggles and all...!!! |
