Message 1 · 13 Jul 2007 16:39 GMT Hi. I used to attend Kate’s classes at Que Pasa in Swansea. Was wondering if there was any update on a new venue. I really enjoyed Kate’s style of teaching and am reluctant to start over with a new teacher. I have heard there is a class in Mambo at Swansea, but not sure of times and days etc can you help with this info? Thanks in anticipation. |

Message 2 · 16 Jul 2007 12:11 GMT Hi Nicky, Thanks for ur message. Nothing new in Swansea I’m afraid. However Carl is back from America (after spending 2 years in a dance school nr NYC) so I’m trying to organise something with him as its so difficut for me to get back regularly with my day job. Post ur email address and I’ll keep you posted. As for Mambos, please do give it a try. Gorka is a wicked teacher, and the crowd there are really friendly. It’s Cuban style, so different to what u learnt with me (LA), but I’m sure you’ll love it none the less. Charlotte also has classes every Tuesday at Monkey Bar, although I’ve never been so don’t know what style she teaches, but shes been going for years and got a really good reputation. Good luck and hopefull something new will pop up soon!! Kx |

Message 3 · 3 Sep 2007 17:21 GMT Hey Nicky This is Carl and yes my fiance and I are back from dancing and teaching out in America with Fred Astaire Dance Studios. Good news Alex (my fiance) and I have organised a new SALSA night again up in Que Pasa Swansea. We will be doing a beginners class and an intermediate class for the first few weeks, with general dancing till late after that. Then once we know what level everyone is at we may add in an advanced class if there is call for it. Plus giving a few short taster lessons of other dances like: Rhumba, Merengue, Swing, Cha Cha, Hustle, Mambo, Samba, and maybe even Tango if we have room. So please keep posted and tell your friends, to come and see us in Que Pasa Swansea. I shall be posting a thread soon, with confirmed dates and times! Thanks Carl |

Message 5 · 10 Sep 2007 07:55 GMT There are a few places you can go mate: Tuesdays: Monkey Bar Friday: Cafe Mambo Those would be the better places, in my opinion, and also as have said above, We are starting a class up in Que Pasa soon, probrably starting the first week of October, and that will also be on a Tuessday. Other than that mate, I would go to Cardiff. Hope that helps For times and prices, etc go to: http://www.swanseasalsa.co.uk/ |

Message 6 · 10 Sep 2007 17:04 GMT Hi Dancingmedic, Unfortunately Friday nights in cafe Mambo have recently finnished. An alternative Friday night venue may be up and running soon, but there is nothing certain yet. Hi Carl, Is it not possible that the new classes at Que Pasa could be arranged for an alternative night, to avoid it clashing with the classes at the Monkey Bar? |

Message 8 · 11 Sep 2007 12:45 GMT Hi Carl, We’re not quite sure why Gorka has ended the classes, it was all a bit sudden. It was understood that the social dancing was to continue at Mambo, however that also seems to be no longer the case. Having ventured over to Swansea last Friday with a few friends, we were very disappointed to have had a wasted journey. Nevertheless being resourceful we decided to go along to La Tasca in Wind Street. We asked the manager if he had any objection to us dancing and making the best of the Flamenco and Cha Cha music that was being played. Happily he didn’t and turned the music up for us. We had to be careful that we didn’t bump into the waitresses and waiters as they we were scurrying back and forth carrying hot plates of food. Some of the Swansea Salsa crowd had also ended up in La Tasca and were equally disappointed about the situation at Café Mambo. Rather encouragingly the manager at La Tasca said that he was hoping to arrange a Latin themed dancing night possibly for Friday nights however he would need to make a few enquiries. Watch this space! |

Message 9 · 11 Sep 2007 14:45 GMT Gorka did email people on his mailing list to warn them. Last week didn’t happen because the venue cancelled at short notice, and as this has happened before he decided that he couldn’t continue with that venue. |

Message 10 · 11 Sep 2007 16:38 GMT Ah I knew there would be a reason. Hopefully he may start up another class somewhere else then :) Dai: The only problem with La Tasca is the space, they don’t have any. There have been classes there before but they have not worked due to the size unfortunatly, otherwise I would go over and start classes up over there also. |
