Message 61 · 29 Aug 2009 12:56 GMT Hi, Now Salsa dance lessons are not only good for the body but are also good for the mind. Yes Salsa is therapy too; how good can one thing get! A recent study in the UK has shown that people suffering from depression who were sent to Salsa dance lessons showed a significant and measurable improvement after attending lessons for 10 weeks. Message 62 · 3 Sep 2009 22:16 GMT Hi I can see there are lots of beginner classes around Cardiff and I am interested in trying one out. However, reading the faq it does state you need basic fitness levels. I am a bit of a porker (not totally massive, but rather rotund) and I have been going to the gym for a few weeks now. Would I fit into a beginners class or would I be laughed out of the building for daring to present my bulk in such an active class? I think it could be a really good way to get fitter and help me in my bid to lose weight, but I don’t want to feel stupid. Perhaps this sounds like a stupid question, I just want to know what people who go to these places think. Ta |

Message 63 · 11 Sep 2009 16:46 GMT There are all sorts of shapes and sizes at all of the classes. And being that you’re “not totally massive” means that no one’s gonna laugh you out of the class. Not that they would if you were, mind, cos we’re all lovely ;-) There’s really nothing to worry about. It’s a brilliant thing to do. And if you can cope with the gym, I suspect you’ll cope with a salsa class. |

Message 64 · 6 Nov 2009 18:10 GMT I was a complete beginner when I went to the first class - haven’t yet managed to get to any more yet. Great fun, very enjoyable. Well worth it. Good exercise too - not too much to take in - the teacher works you through the steps slowly and then strings them together. I also went to the Kizomba class that was held at O’Neill’s on Monday. Slower, easier, but still great fun. Will definately go again. Just wish I’d gone years ago when I first found this site... |
