Message 42 · 17 May 2008 21:04 GMT Hi Katy Just wanted to say how right you were. It was very very daunting and I felt like a prize pratt but my God did I enjoy myself, and I actually learnt to dance (well as much as you can in one lesson). I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I can’t wait until Monday!!! And may even attempt another class during the week, too!!! |

Message 43 · 19 May 2008 16:30 GMT Hi Sharon, Just been reading your comments on this and the O’Neill’s thread. Yes Salsa has that effect on people, as I remember writing similar comments on this website when I started Salsa in February 2006. Yes, it is daunting when you start, you think everyone’s looking at you. I just kept telling myself to be bold for the first few times I went and when you’ve got over those initial nerves you will find that you want to go more and more. Good luck, have fun! |

Message 44 · 24 May 2008 14:45 GMT Hi I have been dancing for about 14 years - I’ve done lots of tap, modern and jazz, but only a little ballroom, ballet and salsa. Should I come to the beginners class or would I be ok to come to a progressors class? Beth |

Message 45 · 24 May 2008 15:50 GMT You should definitely start in the beginners’ class. You may need only one or two beginners’ classes before you are ready to move on, but that’s the best place to assimilate the basics. |

Message 47 · 6 Jun 2008 16:08 GMT Hello there Salsa people of Cardiff, I’m probably typical of many guys that post here and in a common situation, that being that my partner has often said that she’d love to get into salsa dancing but I’ve always come up with an excuse to avoid it. Not because I’m not used to enjoying making a fool of myself in public but because I’ve always been more of an “enthusiasm over skill” kind of dancer! Were both nearly 30 and I’d finally like to surprise my partner by taking her to a beginners salsa night in Cardiff but can’t decide which one would be best and most patient since she is a naturally good dancer and when I dance I look like an octopus falling out of a tree. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated! |

Message 49 · 6 Jun 2008 20:03 GMT Hello to all. Like other newbies who have asked questions, I have been aprehensive about begining salsa classes because I am a bit shy. I don’t wish to offend established dancers by my nervousness, and wondered will us beginners be paired up together in the very early stages? I would very much like to join in, and feel encouraged by all the friendly replies on this site... many thanks. Pearl |

Message 50 · 7 Jun 2008 10:43 GMT Hey Pearl many people are apprehensive about joining a Salsa class at first, but few regret the decision! If they do, it’s simply that they discover Salsa isn’t for them, and never that they felt they were made to feel uncomfortable! The Salsa fraternity is always made up of beginners and experts alike and all the experts anyway were absolute beginners once. They know how you feel as they were once in your shoes and they are mostly very good at making you feel relaxed, allowing you to come along and progress at your own pace! Hopefully that helps... Hopefully see you soon... |
