Hi Salsachick,

Risa was possibly the busiest I seen it last night. And when you’re new to the scene that can be a hindrance if you don’t know many people, as what tends to happen is that everyone dances with their regular partners, myself included.

This unfortunately leaves people like yourself, as you say feeling invisible. I know how it feels I’ve been over to Bristol quite a few times now and still feel like an outsider when there aren’t many people there that I know. On quieter nights, wherever I am (and that’s everywhere) I try make a point of asking someone new.

Definitely come to La Tasca this Saturday if you can. I’d be very happy to dance with you, but rather than describe myself, the way you’ll hopefully recognise me is that I will there early and be first on the floor dancing with which ever Salsera turns up first. Or instead just ask Welsh Wizard or Lisa to point me out.

Hopefully see you on the dance floor soon.

Lisa

Hey salsa chick, so glad u had a good time! And yes what a small world.

I’ll look forward to seeing u again next week and I’ll be happy to introduce u to more people, we’re quite a friendly bunch really... well most of us :)

In answer to ur Bachata question, I can probably only think of about 3 men round here that do it properly and well. You pretty much nailed it on the head in ur description! But to be fair, it’s getting much better!

Have a fab weekend and enjoy La Tasca if u go,

Lisa x

Hi Everyone!

It’s Chris (details at end). I turned up to Cardiff (Risa) on Thursday for the first time in about a year (to dance in Cardiff).

I thought I’d chime in at the end of this thread, rather than starting a new one.

I danced with quite a few ladies on Thursday, so I’m still trying to put names to faces. I tried to dance Bachata well... but that’s something I really am still a beginner at. A few ladies in particular were outstanding Salsa dancers (there was good instruction) and the Bachata lesson was great (having your hair done by the ladies, really is a new experience for me:-)

I really enjoyed myself and I think I’ll be back again soon

The standard of dancing I encountered after lessons was consistently high and I danced with lots of people. I had a few rests (watering stops), one attempt at Cha Cha... (looking for my feet), a go at Bachata (in addition to the lesson) and lots of Salsa (hurrah!).

Can someone let me know what the numbers are like for La Tasca at the weekend? I was thinking one week it might make a nice alternative to the Claverton Rooms in Bath (I like to try ‘new’ things).

I went to No. 10 and the floor is rubbish, seriously warped. I can not see this night taking off any time soon. I will stick with Bar Risa and hope they can get an extension on the closing time.

Hmmm... bit harsh Dave, but you are entitled to your opinion of course... enjoy Bar Risa and good luck with the holding out to see if they get an extension. If it doesn’t happen you are always more than welcome to join the crowd at No 10 even if it’s just to have a drink, listen to the music and enjoy the atmosphere of all the other dancers there. :-)

P.s. If it’s any consolation, if the class and club numbers keep increasing as they have been we will eventually have the use of the upstairs rooms which may be more to your liking. Personally at least for the Summer months I like the ground floor with the open front, plus our outside speakers and the piazza out the front also make it great for dancing outside when the weather is lovely and warm... makes for a great continental atmosphere... hola!... :-)

What’s the point to get an extension on the closing time of Risa if not enough people stay after just for the dancing?

I agree Dave, the floor at No 10 could be better, but after a few dances I adapted to it, and didn’t have a problem with it. Am sure most people have danced on floors that are like ice rinks, sticky etc, but you do get used to it. Try dancing on what was probably the last portable dance floor in existence, i.e. Pieces slotted together on a concrete sloping floor!! That was interesting, especially after a glass or 3 of wine! Am sure everyone has danced on worst floors than No 10.

I will give Bar Risa another try, but I like a venue with character, especially when it’s salsa involved, rather than the sterile environment of a heavily franchised bar.

Hey salsachick, I’m the dj of Bar cuba on Tuesdays, if you want to come and chill out and have some dances to a have a good time, then come after the classes around 10.45, Hope to see you there.
