Hiya, I find myself back in the area after spending 5 years dancing in Southampton (TLC). I can see I can dance 6 nights a week in cardiff, but which is the best night for dancing? I can do cuban and LA/NY but prefer the later. I feel a little nervous comming on my own to a new salsa scene. Cheers : )

Hi Salsachick and welcome back to the area!

To answer your question it depends on the day and how long you can stay out to play for... but if you are looking for any night where there are plenty of dedicated salsa dancers of all levels and different styles and good music then in my opinion...

Monday - O’ Neills

Thursday - Risa followed swiftly by No 10 of course!

Sat - La Tasca... tho it can sometimes get a bit too crowded and non salsa (ie drunken!) in there but on a good night it’s great.

Also keep a look out for the monthly weekend nights in and around Cardiff advertised on this site and if you don’t mind travelling to Bath and Bristol they have monthly weekend salsa nights there too which a lot of us like to travel down too... (and weekday nights if you have the time and energy!)... I don’t have the Bristol/Bath links to hand but I am pretty sure somone will post them up on this thread for you... :-)

Thanks! On a school night mycut off would have to be 11ish, but the sky’s the limit at weekends. What is number10? Am completely out of touch with cardiff bars. Is risa in the bay?

Hi, see the post called ‘Newbie - Lessons in cardiff’, there is a bit on there about classes in the area.

No worries... the dancing times and exact addresses of the places I listed are on the front page of this website including the postcode so you can use something like googlemap or www.multimap.co.uk to get a map and directions... but if this helps... :

Risa is part of the Millenium Plaza... just opposite the Cardiff Central train station and next door to the cinema...

No 10 Nightclub/Contis Restaurant is on Mill lane... just past Caroline St (chippie lane), opposite the Marriott Hotel...

P.s. Absolutely no need to feel nervous... we are a welcoming and friendly bunch... if you come to O’ Neills on a Monday be sure to ask me for a dance... I’ll be the devishily handsome bloke dressed in black... on a Thursday you will find me at No 10 where I teach with Lisa... I’ll be the devishily handsome bloke dressed in black... on a Sat if there isn’t a Bath/Bristol night on I’ll be at La Tasca... errr... just look for the devishily handsome bloke dressed in black... oh and totally deluded of course... :-)

Lol... yes they are both separate venues run by different people on Thursday night... dancing wise (and correct me if I am wrong anyone) Risa starts around 10pm and finishes around 12.00am... currently at No 10 our dancing starts from around 10:45pm and goes on until about 2am or later.

In all honesty No 10 is a brand new night and currently Risa is the busier place... with a lot of the Risa crowd joining our own crowd at No 10 for dancing after Risa has finished for the night... if you can ever get an extension on your 11pm curfew feel free to join us after Risa! :-)

Thank you. I think then that Risa is prob the place to start then. If I don’t feel a buzz I can come over to No 10. Keeps my options open. If I make it to No.10 I will look out for you. : )
