Puerto Rican Salsero Tito Gómez Passes Away
The Puerto Rican salsero Tito Gómez died early this morning in the Valle de Lilí clinic located in southern Cali, Colombia, victim of an infarction, according to various sources close to the artist.
The singer was 59 years old.
Tito Gómez, who in his musical career performed with Ray Barretto, La Sonora Ponceña, La Terrífica and Charlie Palmieri, as well as Grupo Niche, had established residence in Colombia a little more than a year ago, where he used to perform as a solo artist.
His voice is remembered for his excellent interpretations of, among others, “the songs ”Guararé“ and ”Prende el Fogón“, recorded with Ray Barretto and La Sonora Ponceña, respectively.
At the beginning of the 90s, Gomez began his solo career with the album ”Un Nuevo Horizonte“ together with the company Musical Productions. This album found favor with the public with the songs ”Déjala“ and ”Déjame Volver“ [my personal favorite was ”Llegaste Tarde“]. From there his career continued showcasing his talent in more than a dozen recordings out of which the songs ”Déjala“ and ”Quién Nos Iba a Decir", both duets with Tito Rojas, were hits.
Several years ago, the salsero was imprisoned in the US after being accused of counterfeiting money
