Undecided

Thinking about going to salsa classes, but will have to go alone as my friends are definitely not interested. Walked past Cuba a few times and I’m busting to get in there. Noticed there is talk of partners, take it I’ll need one? And what’s the age range like in there?

Says £4 for everything, never been B4 so what exactly is ‘everything’?

Hi Undecided,

A few words of encouragement: the salsa scene in Cardiff is very friendly.

I started on my own and in a way I found it the best way. You don’t need a partner, it’s just a case of turn up on the night. The classes are structured so that you change partners regularly, this way you get to meet lots of new people.

A lot of students tend to go to Cuba, therefore the age range is generally the younger generation whereas at other venues it’s more of a mixed range of ages.

The info on the front page of this website is a bit out of date. The classes are split into two levels and it’s now £4 for one class or £5 for both classes. I would advise you not to do both classes until you have been to about 5 or 6 beginners classes.

Certainly don’t hang around outside, just pop in and maybe just have a look at how the class is run, you’ll soon see that everyone is having fun which will just make you want to join in, but make sure you pay at the till before doing so.

Good luck, have fun!

Hi Katrina

There’s lots of advice for beginners in this thread: Starting Salsa

Add to it if you have any more questions.

Hey I love dancing but haven’t been able to in a while I have never tried salsa before and am scared about just making the first step to come! What is the average age of people at these classes!?

Dai

Hi newbie,

If you read my words of encouragement to ‘Undecided’ in message 12 hopefully this will also encourage you to give it a go. The message also answers your query about the age range of people at the venues.

There are also further words of advice along the same lines under the Starting Salsa thread.

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this thread, your comments are all very encouraging. I’ve always wanted to learn salsa dancing and I think I’m finally goin to toddle on down to a beginners class as they sound great fun! See you all soon I hope! : )

Surprisingly quiet in Cuba last night after a lot of new people in Risa last Thursday. I haven’t been there for a few weeks and it was really busy teh last fgew times I was there. Is it a pre Fresher’s week lull? It really died out after 11 with only about 6-8 people dancing. Still had a good night though.
