Hey guys,

I agree there are so many ways of improving... I dance with anyone of any level and of any style so I’m constantly learning.

I don’t actually do lesosns in cardiff anymore but I always love social dancing... I find it the best way to learn.

However, saying that, I did have a few private lessons with andy when I first started which I found incredibly uselful... but nowadays I’m a weekender junkie! I go on at least one a month and by doing so, get to learn from teachers from all over the world and get to dance with people from all over the world! They are my favourite thing in the world and I always learn something new... I don’t think we can ever stop learning!

I think the main thing is to enjoy it and just accept that people learn in different times... some people pick it up straight away and others don’t but generally, women to tend to learn quicker... or maybe not quicker but we tend to keep improving at a level pace whereas most men seem to work really hard for ages and then one day its just clicks!

And we also all have really off days where it feels like we can’t even do a basic step... its just one of those things but the kep to learning to dance is practice! And have fun! Be able to laugh at yourself and let yourself go.

You can learn from watching good dancers, instructors, DVDs. There are many ways.

The best way (for a man) to improve is to keep dancing and make it your own style. Keep going back to the basics in additon to complicated moves because we all love jumping stages. I still see many dancers with super cool moves getting the basics wrong - leading, timing, styling etc.

I have been dancing for a while (still got a long way to go) and the best coaching I had was when I became friends with this latino couple and they helped me with some styling. All I did in that 4-5 months was basic new york and cuban steps, turns, men styling but at the end that improved my styling, interpretation of music etc etc. Once you got your basics, you can learn anything at ease! (very important step!!!)

Enjoy dancing! That’s what salsa is all about.
