Continued from here.

Susana Montero’s first video is great for styling On1, with lots of little things that are simple to include in your dancing. The other person who does a video worth buying is Eddie the salsa freak—or Joby Vasquez from Salsa Brava. As someone who has an awful lot of ladies styling videos I would be aware of what you buy depending on what you want to achieve. I hear Iris de Brito has just brought one out although I haven’t seen it. I did offer to do a workshop when I come from London around xmas time if you can get a group who are interested I will still be willing, I have my own all female group Seraphim who have just performed at both the Spanish and UK congresses. I trainned with Susana.

I’m actually sort of scared of doing any kind of styling instruction. I do enough wiggling and waving as it is without encouraging myself to do any more. Most likely I’d end up hair combing myself to death.

Hmm, on second thoughts maybe I need a class to make me stop styling. ;-)

:O) An awful lot of girls over style whilst they are learning its quite normal :O)

I have been trying to get a studio at the Rubicon however it seems they are pretty busy. Does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive studio with woodern flooring and mirrors centralish. I am away in NY until 30th March and wish to start my course hopfully getting a welsh girl team together in the process if there is enough interest. I was thinking of maybe a Tuesday night or a Sat night, Mon Fri and Sun are definately out. If I can find somewhere I can possibily start with a workshop for both men and women bringing one of my dance partners possibily 3 hours

Hi ang - maybe a local fitness centre - ie fitness first, pengam green - the flooring wouldn’t be ideal (ie a fitness studio floor as oppose to a dance floor), but I can’t think of anywhere else. Oh apart from Chapter arts centre? I’ll keep thinking! Sounds great anyhow - count me in!

Is Newport any use? If so, try the Riverfront

Andy teaches there on a Monday. Newly built arts centre, purpose built dance studio

Chapter is reasonably priced and it’s easy to get to by bus (or walk) from Cardiff centre. It’s fairly busy but you might find a free evening.

Fitness First has a really nice big room with a wooden floor and mirrors - Andy has run courses there - but it’s further out and not so easy to get to.

Ang - The Gate is also an option? Arts centre with at least one dance studio with mirrors. Fitness First, pengam green, is near the industrial part of newport road, so depends on where in cardiff people live as to whether it’s far out or not I guess. Personally speaking, it’s pretty easy to get to! The only downside about it, is there are pillars (I think 2) in the room, which could get in the way a bit?
Will let you know if I think of any others
Riverfront is a good idea, although again, the fact it’s in newport may put people off (due to travelling, not due to any grievances I have with the place!!!) but it’s a lovely venue.

You could try UWIC, Cyncoed

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP I will be back from NY very soon 30th to be exact I have mailled the places you have suggested to see if they have availability, and I hope to start something very soon. I am taking my group to the Gothenburg congress 7 8 9 April so it may have to start after that time, to give me a litle time to advertise with you guys. I have just started a new routine with my group, if anyone who is already a mambo dancer is interested in learning it I might have the time for that too.
My orrigional plan is to teach a course of ladies styling for around 6 weeks and hope to form a performance group, at the end of it. My group have done 2 choreographies and I have started on the 3rd each one a little harder than the last. I am half way through the third and hope to start on the fourth very soon. Either I will create a whole new piece for you guys or if there are just a few I might teach you the routines already created with a view to performing with my already existing team. Although my preference will be to have an all Welsh team, I am not against either at this point. I am not looking to make money out of this venture more am concerned with covering my travel and studio costs, so that I can continue. Its quite expensive from London to Cardiff unless you find a deal one of those mega bus thinggies. I have never been so lucky usually costs me a fortune and I will have to come at the time convienient for studio space so spread the word and make this possibile :o)
