I would suggest that unless you’re a real twinkletoes with the footwork, Blochs are the most comfortable and secure shoes. A while ago someone I was used to dancing with regularly asked me to give her the first dance in her new Blochs, and both of us felt that fast turns felt safer, better and more stable.

They have the added advantage that you can’t stab other dancers with them...

Sorry to drag this subject back to life again, but how flexible are the Bloch dance sneakers? How much can you articulate your foot in them?

Dance sneakers are “split sole” so they are highly articulate, as you can see in the pictures on this page.

Thank you Hugh. Apart from the split, how flexible is the section of sole beneath the ball of the foot? The reason I’m asking is, I’m considering finding a place where I can try some on but having gotten used to dancing in very soft suede-soled latin sandals I want a shoe that is similarly flexible. I need all the control I can get!

The section of sole beneath the ball of the foot is completely rigid, but the split sole means that you can bend your foot a lot. They give you the best of both worlds, in a way - the flat soles provide secure footing, while the split sole gives you freedom to bend your feet. I find they give me lots of control. I would suggest that you try them on in a shop rather than buying them by post so you can feel what I mean.

Bloch dance shoes are great! I seriously recommend them. They make spinning easier and are exremely comfortable.

I have Bloch dance shoes, they give you lots of flexibilty in your feet and some cushion. Recently though got myself some split sole jazz shoes. They are even better for feeling your feet on the ground so you can ‘earth’ yourself better. They are super light and you can make faster moves with your feet and not feel weighed down. Good for the gym and salsa clubs with reasonably clean floors. See link: dance direct

Well Hazel, first off do u wear shoes made for dancing? I would think that suede soled shoes would be better and much more flexible to dance in.

If you haven’t been dancing that long, most instructors recommend that you start with lower heels and work your way up after some practice :)

I hope this helps!

I also have split sole dance shoes - they look like black trainers. They are really comfy and great to dance in! Don’t wear them outside of dancing though as not only does the sole get ruined but as I discovered, they don’t let your foot breathe very well and I got athlete’s foot!

Does anyone know where in Cardiff or nearby I can get split sole dance shoes? It seems they are the thing to get.
