A plea to certain individuals:

Please don’t lecture women on how to dance. Women come to salsa to dance, not to have their ‘faults’ explained to them, and some of them are put off dancing altogether because of this behaviour.

If a woman hasn’t asked you for a private lesson, your dancing should do the talking. If she can’t follow the lead, maybe you need to improve the lead. Or maybe the move is too difficult for her level of ability, in which case you should use simpler moves rather than stopping the dance and lecturing her.

Unless she specifically asks you for advice, leave the teaching to the people who are paid to do it.

I agree with this comment Tom. My mum stopped going to salsa because a guy kept telling her off and slapped her wrist, it totally put her off going again, although I told her to start again in the new year as not all guys are like that, so I will show her this and hopefully she will return back

Some people need to learn some manners. Hope your mum gets back into it and enjoys it.

I agree 100% with this post and agree also, that it is only a minority of guys who do this kind of thing! However, if you are new to Salsa and your first encounter is with one of these bores, you can easily be put off for life, I know...

Come back Jemma’s Mum and ignore the inadequate individual who managed to put you off with their unhelpful attitude :-)
