Referring back to the 'Leading ladies' thread, I'm not sure that I agree with Saul that 'whether a dance is enjoyable or not rests almost entirely on the bloke'. Whether a dance is flashy and complex might rely on the man, but that's not quite the same thing.

I sympathise with Saul's comment about remembering moves that I'd forgotten to do, but I think it may only be a problem for us: as women get to dance with a lot of different men over an evening they get the variety they need, while us men are stuck repeating the same old stuff.

I also find it takes a while for my salsa brain to switch on: I can't think of anything original or interesting to do for the first few dances, but towards the end of a good night at the Toad I find myself coming up with moves I thought I'd forgotten.

A few months ago when I thought I was getting stale I spent an hour writing down all the moves and variations I could remember, which definitely helped (and helped me to think of some new combinations).

Written descriptions are a bit limited though, so my next plan - if I can persuade a camera-shy dance partner to co-operate - is to set up a video camera and try and catalogue my moves on video. The next step will be to use a simple video editing program to see if I can come up with new combinations I haven't thought of before...

for me, practice is the key. If I don't dance much for a week or so I find myself forgetting stuff. Also, the fitter I am, the better; less time resting means more time dancing and experimenting.
