Hi,

Strange question possibly... I’m 24 weeks pregnant and love dancing to keep fit. Would a beginners salsa class be suitable for me during pregnancy?

Thanks

Hi G

There is no reason why beginners salsa at this stage in your pregnancy would not be suitable. But you may find that at this stage your centre of balance has changed and this can affect your balance. (this is what happened to friends of mine).

It’s probably a case of try it and find out, but make sure the instructor knows you’re pregnant.

Give it a go.

Good Luck

I’m a 26 year old advanced Salsa instructor. I’ve been performing and teaching Salsa for the past 8yrs. I’m currently 27 wks pregnant and I’ve been social dancing once or twice every week. I’ve stopped my performances and workout routines because they involve lifts and vigorous stretching. Up to 20 wks I felt more comfortable in my Dance shoes but when I started showing, friends grew concerned about me falling so I switched to flats.Salsa is a great way to keep your heart and circulation healthy, not to mention a great source of fun and socializing when u can’t party like u used to. The only precautions I would give is to take breaks at least every two songs, pay attention to any sensations of stress (pinches, aches or pelvic pressure) keep the the dips modest and dance with gentlemen and not show monkeys! And be sure to get a good nights rest afterwards.
