A realy authentic band, that could play at an Salsa Event?

I went to see Orquesta Montpelier at Lydney Town Hall back in September 2007 and they were great!

I think the band is based in Bristol, if you contact Louise Forster by clicking on this link to her website www.latinsource.co.uk/ she has links with the band.

Her website also features some video footage of the band and her dancing on stage.

Hope this helps, and you are able to book one of these bands to come and perform live in South Wales, as it’s not very often that we are treated to the luxury of dancing in front of a live band!

Oops I’ve only just noticed the date of your original enquiry Carl. I only added to this thread because the last entry from Martin was just a couple of weeks ago. Nevertheless perhaps I could use this opportunity to kick off a bit of discussion about maybe one of you promoters out there to booking one of these bands?

You need to be very sure about a band before you book them for a salsa event. Dancing to a good live band is brilliant, but too many groups don’t know how to pace a set for dancers.

Hmm, I know what you mean. I’ve encountered this a few times with live bands, yes the music they play has to be dancable!

The bands I’ve heard that play familiar dancable salsa tracks include Pelenke, Grupo Lema and Coco Express, however at least two of these bands are based in London.

I know this doesn’t strictly follow on from this thread - but for those interested - Los Van Van “The best dance band in Cuba!” (New York Times) are playing in London on 7th March. Not to be missed!
