Hi Stellan,
If you click on this link www.dancalatina.com/music.html on Andy’s website and scroll down the table that says recommended music starting with Sierra Maestra – Dundunbanza, you will find a list of 7 tracks most of which Andy used to play down at the Wharf. Many of the instruments and lyrics in these tracks are harmonised with the beat which is always good for beginners.
The Coco Valoy version of Juliana is probably more appropriate, as it is more mellow than the Dark Latin Grove version. Other suggestions are Hoy Tenemos — Sidestepper, 537 Cuba – Orishas, Ahe — Charlie Cruz all of which currently plays quite frequently at Risa during the classes.
There are also two tracks specifically for beginners, which I don’t know the name of but you’ll know which one’s I mean. There is a track that counts, in Spanish Uno, Dos, Tres…... and the other track is where the ‘one’ is called.
Hope this helps, good luck with your new classes.
