Hi, can anyone recommend some Salsa music for beginners. I have a fair few songs but would like to add a few new ones that I may not have heard of.
Cheers!

Are you looking for ultra slow tracks for stepping through the moves to (less that 40 bars per minute), fast cha-cha-chá can be good for that, or slow-but-dancable salsa (40 - 43 bars per minute)?

Hey Stellan...

I’ve got that classic slow one where there is a voiceover with the guy actually saying ‘1,2,3... 5,6,7’. Also the version where he isn’t saying that at all. Can do you a copy if you like or find out the actual name of the track.

Also if there’s a DJ system at your new night check it out, at No 10 (yes another shameless plug!), we have a standard DJ system which allows you to adjust the tempo of any track, very useful :-)

Hi Stellan,

If you click on this link www.dancalatina.com/music.html on Andy’s website and scroll down the table that says recommended music starting with Sierra Maestra – Dundunbanza, you will find a list of 7 tracks most of which Andy used to play down at the Wharf. Many of the instruments and lyrics in these tracks are harmonised with the beat which is always good for beginners.

The Coco Valoy version of Juliana is probably more appropriate, as it is more mellow than the Dark Latin Grove version. Other suggestions are Hoy Tenemos — Sidestepper, 537 Cuba – Orishas, Ahe — Charlie Cruz all of which currently plays quite frequently at Risa during the classes.

There are also two tracks specifically for beginners, which I don’t know the name of but you’ll know which one’s I mean. There is a track that counts, in Spanish Uno, Dos, Tres…... and the other track is where the ‘one’ is called.

Hope this helps, good luck with your new classes.

Dai

Sorry Hugh, could you alter the second para, to say:

All of which Andy currently plays quite frequently at Risa during the classes.

Thanks.
