Hi,

I really want to start learning latino dancing/salsa etc. This year, but have been told most of the classes around south wales are in night clubs... I’m 17 and this could apparently be preoblematic. As I have no classes near me in Brecon I don’t want to make a trip all the way down to Cardiff only to find I can’t get in!
Anyone know what the deal is?

Hi Fer, unfortunately most of the classes are in clubs, pubs etc but a few aren’t. If you’re free on a Sunday we’ve just started up a new night in Newport at the Burleigh Academy which is open to over 14s. We have a few youngsters (under 18s) who come to our Newport classes regularly. Hope this helps somewhat. For more details check my website: www.dancalatina.com

Hi there fer
I have just left wales but my classes are continuing and the Monday night one may be of interest to you - it’s at abercynon (near pontypridd, just off the A470) and under 18s are allowed.
For more info please contact tammi (who is now the teacher) via Welshsinger3@aol.com
Hope you find a class and enjoy it!

I reckon that you might as well risk it - make sure that you have a plan to get back if there is any bother but in Cardiff there are few bouncers on the door for Salsa nights and I’m sure that if you respect the law and don’t buy anything alcoholic at the bar then I reckon you will be fine.
What is youth if you don’t take a few small risks?! You are hardly doing anything worse than the average teen. If anything you should be applauded and encouraged.
I’m not condoning doing anything illegal and of course clubs are strictly speaking a place for adults. The last thing that most would like is a place that they feel comfortable overun by abusive teens but if you’re respectful to all, then I’m sure a blind eye would be turned.

Thinking about it my previous comment is possibly not the best of advice. I would only suggest doing that if there were no under 18s nights as it would be much better to do Salsa with your own age group. It would be nice though if there was somewhere where people of all ages could do it together though. I’m not a big fan of the way we alienate young people that are interested in doing something worthwhile.
