I stumbled on this site, am new to salsa (three months-ish) and very interested in ways to improve my dancing. Am realising that there is a big difference between New York and Cuban, think I prefer Cuban. Also love Bachata. Any tips for new girl?
Where are you located, Christina? When I started salsa, I found the writing of Edie Espinoza very interesting, though she writes from a definite Los Angeles perspective.
Get out dancing! Once you’ve got the basics, just find some Cuban-style dancers and dance with them. As a woman you’ll learn more from dancing with good dancers than you will from most classes.
It’s also worth getting private lessons which can be very useful for tidying up your technique.
